TCDs - When we say "traffic control devices" most folks think stop lights and signals, but in our industry, this includes stuff like roadway markings and signage too, which all play an important role in keeping our highways functioning safely and smoothly.

Here our TCD team, lead by Supervisor Cam Outler, is working to install a new coat of thermoplastic markings and fresh reflective beads over the faded arrows and median striping in front of Toombs County Middle and High School.

State LMIG funds, Local Maintenance and Improvement Grants, covered the vast majority of costs here. Great job to The City Of Lyons Georgia for taking advantage of this GDOT program to help keep our streets looking sharp, and thank you for letting us lend a hand!

GROWTH IS GOOD - Last weekend, our Leadership team joined other industry leaders, customers, vendors, and policymakers at the 2026 Georgia Highway Contractors Association Convention in Amelia Island. We also had a chance to recognize and support one of our own, Mr. Mart Conner. Over the past year, Mart has been focusing on growing his leadership and management skills in GHCA's Executive Development Program.

“This year’s Georgia Highway Contractors Association Executive Development Program gave me a better understanding of both the operational and interpersonal sides of the road construction industry. I gained insight into leadership and workforce development, and started building relationships across a wider swath of the industry. RAMPING UP, HELP NEEDED - Perm grass season is here and we are BUSY. With that being said, we're looking for help in the field for projects like these.

EVANS, GA - We stopped by Hardy McManus Rd earlier this week to check out our progress on this Reeves project. This nearly $40m project was approved last summer by the Columbia County Board of Commissioners, aimed at reducing congestion and keeping traffic in this area moving smoothly by adding additional lanes and replacing traditional intersections with roundabouts.

We're proud of our small role in this project and thank the folks over at Reeves for letting us handle their ESC needs.

KNEE DEEP - This week, our crews were working over in the Bulloch - Effingham area on GA 119, installing pavement stabilization fabric ahead of McLendon's Grading Crews.

Each section is sewn together into the next, making one long continuous sheet from the individual pieces. In low, wet, flood prone areas, this fabric material helps keep the layers of rock and soil in place under the asphalt, significantly extending the life of the highway. Along with stabilization fabric, we've also provided silt fence and OBF. As things progress, we'll be back out to help plant some grass too.

You can tell this was a tough time of year to do this work, but sometimes we just have to get out there and make it happen for our clients. We appreciate our guys getting out in this mess and keeping a good attitude.

COUNTY SEAT - Recently, our Traffic Control Devices Team helped The City of Mount Vernon and Montgomery County get the courthouse square restriped after surface improvements had been performed. This project was right in our backyard and our guys really enjoyed being able to do some local work that we can all appreciate.

The material you see being applied here isn't the standard paint we use when we stripe roads. This marking material is called thermoplastic. Paint is thin and you can spray it, but this stuff has to be heated and pretty much poured into place. As the thermo is applied, you can see the little glass reflective beads pouring right over the top of that material while it's still hot. These beads are where the lines get their reflectivity.

Our striping and paint jobs can be a challenge, but we're happy with how this one turned out. Hat tip to our guys in the field for a job well done!

MERRY CHRISTMAS - Before we wind down ‘25 and part ways to spend time with our friends and families, we take a second to gather together for our annual company Christmas party.

During this time, we also recognized Ms. Gail Beach as the inaugural recipient of the Otis Shipman award. Ms. Gail had her work cut out for her streamlining our AR process when she joined our team. In the time since she’s joined us, we’ve seen her impact across everything from aging reports to client relations. We’re thankful to have Gail on our team.

ENMARKET ARENA - This week, we helped the folks over at APAC-Atlantic, put the finishing touches on a parking expansion project at the Enmarket Arena. This project helped repurpose unused land for the benefit of the local community, and the area as a whole. This site is in a pretty unique part of Savannah, close to the ports, close to downtown, right at the end of I-16, and just before the Talmadge Memorial Bridge, making it central and accessible to locals and visitors alike.
