Take a look at this cutaway of the coils inside an air handling system.

Heated or cooled fluid travels through continuous tubing that winds back and forth throughout the unit. As air moves through and around the coils, it is warmed or cooled before being distributed throughout a building.

It’s a rare look inside the equipment responsible for creating comfortable indoor environments.

Every classroom has different heating and cooling needs, which is why many schools use VAV, or Variable Air Volume, systems. These systems allow each classroom to have its own thermostat, providing independent control over temperature and airflow.

When additional heat is needed, hot water from the boiler system circulates through reheat coils in the VAV system, warming the air before it is delivered back into the classroom. When cooling is needed, the system adjusts airflow to deliver conditioned air and help maintain a comfortable environment year-round.

Good planning is at the heart of every successful project. Having a dedicated staging area at this site allowed our team to organize materials, protect them until they’re needed, and keep everything within easy reach throughout installation. Thoughtful planning like this helps a project run more efficiently from start to finish.

Last week, we showed you how these air handlers were installed. Now, we’re giving you a closer look at just how massive they really are!

Mike gives a little perspective on the size of these units, while the access doors give you a glimpse of just how much equipment is packed inside.

Installing systems of this size takes a lot of planning, coordination and precision from start to finish.

Massive air handlers. Two stories. One very precise lift.

Take a look at how we got these units into position and ready for installation.

Out with the old doesn’t mean straight to the dumpster.

As crews tear out piping and mechanical systems, materials like copper and steel are collected, separated, and recycled. It’s a simple but important part of the job. Recycling valuable materials helps keep them in circulation and out of the landfill, reducing the footprint left behind.

Progress continues inside Eagle Lake Elementary.

The renovation is moving along with new HVAC ductwork and other updates taking shape throughout the building. It’s exciting to see all the pieces start coming together after months of planning and hard work.

We’ll keep sharing updates as this project continues to transform!

Rooftop units were lifted into place last week by crane at Eagle Lake Elementary School, marking a major milestone on the project.

While most of the work is happening inside the building, this is one of those moments that's impossible to miss. The new rooftop equipment is a key part of the building's upgraded HVAC system and keeps the project moving into its next phase.

At the school project in Madelia, we’re replacing an older system with new boilers that each have their own dedicated pumps. The old system relied on shared pumping to move heat through the building. The new setup gives each boiler more control, improving efficiency and responsiveness.

In a school, that matters a lot. Cold mornings, full classrooms, quiet weekends; the load is always changing.

This upgrade helps the system keep up and deliver more consistent heat throughout the building.
