If your home had water damage and you're not sure the reconstruction was done right — here's what to look for.
This matters more than most homeowners realize. Rushed or incomplete reconstruction is one of the most common problems we see in Southwest Riverside County homes.
5 signs the job wasn't finished properly:
1. Drywall feels soft or sounds hollow near the affected area
Properly replaced drywall should be firm, sealed, and taped. Soft spots mean moisture or shortcuts.
2. Paint is bubbling, peeling, or showing stains within a few months
New paint over unprimed or still-damp drywall will fail fast. This is a red flag.
3. Flooring is lifting, warping, or showing gaps near the repair zone
Subfloor moisture that wasn't fully dried before new flooring was installed will push up within months.
4. You smell musty or earthy odors — especially when the AC kicks on
Mold doesn't always show on the surface. If the smell is there, it's behind the wall.
5. No permit was pulled and no final inspection was done
In most Riverside County cities, structural repairs require permits. If the contractor skipped it, the work isn't protected.
If any of these sound familiar, don't ignore it. You deserve to know your home was repaired correctly.
