Every time this family pulls into their driveway, this is what they come home to.

Board and batten, cedar posts, black windows — an exterior that was thought through from the roofline down to the entry steps. The details on a front elevation set the tone for everything inside. When they're done right, you notice. When they're not, you notice that too.

That first photo is bare studs, subfloor, and a fireplace rough-in. The second is what it became — vaulted ceilings, timber beams, finished floors, and a wall of windows looking straight out to the water.

A lot of decisions get made between those two photos. Materials, details, sequencing. The ones that get made carefully are the ones you still appreciate five years after move-in day.

This is what it looks like when a build is done right; heavy timber, composite decking, cable railing that gets out of the way of the view. Being trusted with a space like this means a lot to us. We don't take that lightly.

Cowboy boots. Star Wars shirt. Zero hesitation.

Demo day and my son decided he was on cleanup duty. Took that job very seriously. Every piece went in the dumpster. He was pretty proud throwing that last piece in before we officially wrapped up the day 💪

This is what family-owned actually looks like.

Basement's framed out, rough-in is in progress, and a kitchenette is coming together. But honestly, he was the highlight of the day.

Made a stop at the Arch in St. Louis on our way home from Texas — figured we should probably inspect the craftsmanship as a family. 😄

Gotta clear something up though — despite the name, Archstone Homes can't take credit for this one. Little out of our service area… and definitely out of our budget.

This one started with a roof that didn’t look that bad from the outside…

But once we opened it up, the framing told a different story. Years of moisture led to rot, and eventually a windstorm took the whole roof off.

We tore everything back to solid structure, rebuilt the framing, and installed a new metal roof that doesn't just look good, its also built to hold up 💪

It’s a good reminder: small leaks don’t stay small for long.

Most people don’t think about what happens before the foundation, but this is where problems are either avoided… or created.

Here we’re doing a perc test and stripping topsoil. That top layer might look fine, but it’s not stable enough to build on. If you skip this step or rush it, you’re asking for settling issues later.

After over a decade in this kind of work, we’ve seen firsthand that getting the ground right makes everything else go smoother.
