Before:
Years of soil buildup hid this tree’s root flare completely. When the base of a tree is buried, the trunk holds moisture and roots struggle to breathe — often leading to decline long before symptoms appear.

After:
Root flare rediscovered and restored ✨
This tree can now exchange oxygen properly, shed water away from the trunk, and grow with less stress on its structure.

Before:
This tree had a neat mulch ring, but the root flare was still buried beneath soil and mulch. Even well-intentioned landscaping can slowly stress a tree when the trunk stays covered.

After:
Root flare fully exposed and properly mulched 🌳
By gently removing excess material, we restored airflow, drainage, and visibility to the tree’s natural base — while keeping the area clean and intentional.

No heavy machinery. No lawn damage. No noise at 7am. We do all our root flare excavation with hand tools – trowels, hori-hori knives, and brushes. Why? Because tree roots are delicate. One wrong move with a power tool can do more harm than good. It takes longer. It costs us more. But your tree (and your lawn) will thank you. Learn more about our approach ↓

Your trees are worth more than you think. Healthy mature trees can add $10,000+ to your property value. They cut AC costs by up to 25%. They even reduce stress (studies prove it). But a struggling tree? It becomes a liability – removal costs, potential damage, lost value. The difference often comes down to one thing: whether the roots can breathe. Before:
Hardscape built tightly around the trunk restricted growth and trapped moisture, putting long-term pressure on the tree.

After:
Root flare excavation + corrected spacing
The trunk is now free to grow naturally, and the surrounding area supports both the tree and the landscape.

🌳 Thoughtful tree care that respects biology — not shortcuts.

Before:
Over time, soil accumulation completely buried this tree’s root flare. The trunk was acting like a root — something it was never designed to do.

After:
Root flare rediscovered and restored ✨
This tree can now exchange oxygen properly, shed moisture away from the trunk, and grow with less stress.

💚 This is preventive tree care — not cosmetic work.

See roots wrapping around your tree trunk at the base? That’s called girdling – and it’s literally strangling your tree. Every year, the noose gets tighter. This usually happens because the tree was planted too deep, so roots grow UP instead of OUT. The fix: Expose the root flare and carefully address problem roots before it’s too late. Before:
This tree was buried under a classic “mulch volcano.” While common, this practice slowly suffocates roots and invites rot, pests, and instability.

After:
A proper mulch ring with the root flare exposed ✔️
Mulch is now doing what it’s meant to do — protecting soil moisture and temperature without touching the trunk.

Just planted a new tree? Here’s the #1 mistake I see: Planting too deep. 87% of trees leave nurseries already buried too deep. Then we dig a hole and bury them even more. The fix: Find the root flare (where trunk widens into roots). That needs to be AT or ABOVE ground level – not buried. Your new tree is an investment. Give it the right start ↓

Stop! Before you mulch this spring – That mulch “volcano” piled against your tree trunk? It’s slowly killing your tree. Mulch should look like a donut, not a volcano: • 2-4 inches deep • A few inches AWAY from the trunk • Spread out to the drip line Your tree needs to breathe. Before:
This mature tree had years of turf and soil built up against the trunk. When grass meets bark, moisture gets trapped where it shouldn’t — increasing the risk of decay, girdling roots, and decline.

After:
Root flare fully exposed and breathing again 🌳
By carefully removing excess soil and grass, we revealed the natural base of the tree and restored proper airflow and drainage — without harming roots or compacting soil.
