Board of Adjustments in Unionville, N.C.

Most town councils appoint members of the community to serve on their Board of Adjustments. Here in Unionville, N.C. the town council members always appoint themselves to serve as the Board of Adjustments. You might ask why is that? They do it that way because they do not want the Board of Adjustments overturning any of their decisions concerning rezoning request, variances or special use permits. And that my friends is one of the biggest displays of selfishness that there has ever been. Please feel free to share this post.

The stupidest thing I have seen today. A guy walking in Southern States Store wearing a heavy winter coat but he had shorts on. I guess his legs do not get cold.

This job is coming along very nicely. I finished the trim carpentry work today and Zane made my work look very good by coming behind me with painters putty and caulking. It will be ready to paint by tomorrow as the putty and caulk should be dry by then. David Caskey has done a fantastic job on the tile work.

A very small water heater that we installed about 1 week ago in a commercial building in Monroe. It serves only 1 sink. Danny Starnes came behind us and wired the heater and installed a light because it was kind of dark in the corner where this sink is located. The customer is very happy and we are happy that they are happy.

Tough Job Today.

But someone has to do it. We started installing new water lines throughout a house today for a customer. We got everything stubbed thru the floor to the crawl space. Going back tomorrow to hopefully finish. When we re-pipe a house we install new shut off valves under all fixtures and run the new water lines all the way to the tub and shower faucets. That is the correct way to do it. Our customer told us today that her daughter had someone to re-pipe her house and all the plumber did was replace the lines under the house but not in the walls. Our customers daughter got a half _ _ _ job done. We do ours the right way. Always have and always will for as long as we choose to do this type of work. We even replaced the shut off valves at the washing machine box. We had to buy those at Lowe's because our regular plumbing suppliers do not carry them. Sometimes Lowe's does come in very handy if you know what you are looking for. I will be glad when this one is completed. Whoever did the original plumbing did some things that has caused this job to be very hard.

Plumbing, Heating or Fire Sprinklers
Anyone who works on plumbing, heating or fire sprinkler systems in North Carolina must receive a license from the State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. The board offers two types of licenses: Class I, which covers all plumbing, heating and fire sprinkler projects across all types of properties, and Class II, which covers these activities for single family residential homes only. You must have at least 4,000 hours of experience to qualify for a plumbing or heating license and you must have a plumbing license to qualify for a fire sprinkler license.

Other Work
If your handyman services do not include plumbing, electrical, heating or fire sprinkler work, and you do not accept any one job that exceeds $30,000 in value, you do not have to obtain a license from the state of North Carolina.

The above two paragraphs were copied and pasted from a search that I did online. I already knew this information but I wanted to share it with you in the proper way that it is written. In order to legally engage in the business of Plumbing, Heating or Fire Sprinklers you must first obtain a license from the State Board Of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. This is the Law.

If you are a home owner and you are not 100% sure if your contractor is licensed you can do a license search on the N.C. State Board of Examiners website. It is very easy to do this search.

One of the biggest problems in our industry is all the unlicensed people parading around out there as legitimate contractors. They may very well in some cases know how to do the work but they are still supposed to be licensed by the state in which they are doing business. In other cases they may not know what they are doing and you the homeowner are at risk by using the unlicensed contractor.
