We’ve been busy in the pit all week screening gravel and cleaning up rock. Luckily, the weather has been on our side!

Our screener has been a pivotal part in our operation since the late 90’s. We even had to rebuild the engine, replace belts, and a few rollers this spring.

Out with the old, in with the new! This time, an approach culvert!

The old pipe was slightly smaller and was rusted out, but it also had no slope what so ever.

We’re fixing the slope over 200’ from one end to the other to make sure the water has somewhere to go.

Anything is better than a flooded field and inaccessible approach!

We’re finishing up another culvert repair today for Framnas Township!

We had to excavate, remove, regrade, and replace five sections of concrete culvert before putting it all back together.

We’ve been hard at work today fixing this culvert for Framnas Township today! This was a fun one.

It was full of water, so first we had to excavate the ditch out to give the water somewhere to go.

Then upon excavating to locate the separated chunks, we found an existing metal culvert which had three pieces of concrete butted up to it.

We decided to replace them all together with a spiral section to match the existing. Both are now tied together with a strong 6 bolt coupling, fabric over the top, and a solid backfill.

These can be full of surprises, but nothing we can’t handle after 56 years in business.

We’ve been doing some spring cleaning here at the shop over the last few weeks!

If you’ve got a cleanup job of your own that needs heavy equipment, that’s kind of our thing too. Demolition, debris hauling, land clearing, site cleanup — we do it all.

Every year when the weather breaks we get our own yard in order and gear up for a busy season of doing the same for our customers.

Busy day for the Jim Riley & Sons Construction Inc crew!

Kevin and Conner are moving black dirt piles to prep for screening next week.

Cory is busy screening gravel for two projects needing a total of 20,000 yards!

> For context, a yard of gravel is roughly 2,500 lbs dry. That’s 50 million pounds of gravel!

Eric is working with the Mohr crew to replace another residential sewer, Darren is hauling gravel, and Brad/Michael are working on equipment in the shop.
