Home is more than walls, windows, and a roof.

It’s the sound of familiar floors beneath your feet.
The chair where morning coffee tastes best.
The kitchen where holidays were celebrated.
The hallway marked by family photos and memories that shaped generations.

For many older adults, home is deeply connected to identity, independence, dignity, and comfort. It’s where life happened and where they still want life to continue happening.

That’s why aging in place matters so much.

At Aging in Place North Carolina, we believe growing older should never mean giving up the place you love most. With thoughtful home modifications, accessibility solutions, and guidance through a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) lens, we help create safer, more comfortable homes that support independence without sacrificing beauty, warmth, or peace of mind.

Because staying at home isn’t just about convenience.

It’s about preserving routines.
Protecting memories.
Honoring a lifetime.
And allowing people to continue living fully in the spaces that feel like them.

The truth is, small changes can create life-changing freedom.

A safer entry.
A better bathroom layout.
Improved lighting.
A railing that restores confidence.
A home that evolves with you instead of against you.

Every home has a story.
Our mission is to help people continue writing theirs.

🏡 Stay in the home you love. Live the life you want.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

At Aging in Place North Carolina, this remembrance is deeply personal. Our company is proudly made up of children of military Veterans and military spouses whose lives have been shaped by service, sacrifice, resilience, and love of country.

Today, we honor not only those who gave everything in defense of our freedoms, but also the families who continue carrying their legacy forward every day.

As we work to help seniors live safely, comfortably, and independently at home, we’re reminded how important home truly is, because for so many military families, protecting home and family was always part of the mission.

We are forever grateful to those who served, those we lost, and the loved ones who continue to honor their memory with strength and pride.

May we never take their sacrifice for granted.

🇺🇸 We remember. We honor. We thank you.

North Carolina is aging. That’s not something to fear. It’s something to thoughtfully prepare for.

By 2030, 1 in 5 adults in North Carolina will be 65 or older. Even more importantly, the overwhelming majority want to remain in the homes and communities they love for as long as possible.

That’s where Aging in Place and Universal Design matter.

As Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS), we help families proactively create safer, more comfortable, and more accessible homes that support independence, confidence, and quality of life. Not just for today, but for the future.

The reality is that most homes were never designed with aging, mobility, caregiving, or long-term comfort in mind. But small, intentional updates can make an incredible difference:
✔ Better lighting
✔ Safer bathrooms
✔ Improved accessibility
✔ Reduced fall risks
✔ Easier daily living
✔ Greater peace of mind for families and caregivers

Aging in place is more than a trend. It’s a growing movement centered around dignity, independence, and living well at home.

The best time to prepare is before a crisis forces you to.

At Aging in Place North Carolina, we believe every family deserves a home that supports them through every season of life.

One of the most commonly recommended modifications during our CAPS Home Safety & Comfort Assessment is surprisingly simple: switching traditional door k***s to lever handles.

Why? Because small changes can make a BIG impact on safety, comfort, and independence.

Lever handles are easier to operate for individuals with arthritis, limited grip strength, mobility challenges, or anyone carrying items while moving throughout the home. Unlike traditional round k***s that require twisting and pinching, lever handles create smoother, safer access with less strain on the hands and wrists.

They’re also one of the most affordable universal design upgrades you can make — and they work beautifully in almost any home style or finish.

At Aging in Place North Carolina, we look at how a home functions for both today and the future. The goal isn’t just accessibility. It’s helping individuals and families live more safely, comfortably, and confidently in the homes they love.

Sometimes the best safety solutions are the ones you barely notice — because they simply make life easier every single day.

This AAPI Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize one of our own — Mary Pruter. 💛

Mary is Asian American, born in the Philippines, where her mother was also born and raised before moving to the United States more than 40 years ago. Growing up in a military town surrounded by strong Filipino families, Mary was immersed in a culture rooted in food, language, gatherings, and most importantly — caring for one another.

In Filipino culture, family extends beyond blood. It means showing up, supporting each other, and making sure no one walks through life alone.

That same belief is what led Mary to Aging in Place North Carolina.

As both a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and caregiver for her own mother, Mary understands firsthand the emotional and practical realities families face while helping loved ones age safely at home. Her work is driven by compassion, clarity, and the belief that every family deserves guidance they can trust.

At Aging in Place North Carolina, we combine CAPS expertise, construction experience, and real-life caregiving understanding to help families create safer, more comfortable homes — without sacrificing dignity, beauty, or independence.

Because for us, this isn’t just business.
It’s personal.
It’s family.
And it’s how we care for yours. 💛

Safety can — and should — be beautiful.

As Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS), we believe comfort, confidence, and thoughtful design begin before you even walk through the front door.

Something as simple as adding a properly placed rail to support even the slightest step can provide daily reassurance, stability, and peace of mind — without sacrificing the beauty of your home.

The best safety modifications don’t feel clinical.
They feel intentional. Seamless. Welcoming.

That’s the difference thoughtful Aging in Place design makes. 💛

During a recent Safety & Comfort Assessment, our team was focused on helping a family create a safer home for their aging mother living with them— identifying opportunities throughout the home to improve mobility, comfort, and long-term independence.

But somewhere between assessing walkways, bathrooms, and safety concerns… our Founder made another important connection. 🐾

Meet Buzz.

Buzz is the family’s senior dog and, according to the homeowner, usually doesn’t do well with strangers coming into the home. The daughter shared that he often gets stressed, barks, and growls around new people.

Except this time.

Instead, Buzz stayed calm, relaxed, and somehow ended up making a new best friend during the visit. By the end of the assessment, he was comfortably hanging out with our Founder, Del like they’d known each other for years.

So today, we’re proud to say we weren’t just family approved…

We were Buzz approved too. 🤝🐶

Moments like this remind us that when you approach this work with patience, compassion, and genuine care, people — and even pets — can feel it.

Because creating safer homes should feel comforting for everyone under the roof.

After an in-depth Professional Home Safety & Comfort Assessment, we develop thoughtful recommendations, review an installation plan with the family, demonstrate how modifications will improve daily living, and then expert installation begins.

A shower modification, grab bars, or swapping out shower heads are more than items on a checklist to complete. They represent safety, confidence, independence, and peace of mind for the people who rely on them every day.

What often goes unseen in the process is the collaboration.

We spend time getting to know the families we serve, hearing their stories, understanding their concerns, and learning what “feeling safe at home” truly means to them.

These projects are never simply transactional. They can be emotional, personal, and incredibly enriching for everyone involved.

In the end, the goal is bigger than modifications alone. It’s about creating confidence, comfort, and peace of mind so families feel great about the work completed and the future ahead.

That’s what Aging in Place North Carolina is all about.
