Joseph Scott Homes is looking for a dependable, hands-on person to help keep our custom homes clean, protected, and ready for the next stage of construction. Must have experience with using tools(saw, screw gun, know how to measure and install towel bars…)

This role involves working at multiple homes throughout the building process—from foundation and framing through final detailing and homeowner turnover. We need someone who notices what needs attention, takes pride in their work, and follows through without constant supervision. What We’re Looking For

* Experience in residential construction, remodeling, maintenance, handyman work, or a similar hands-on role.
* Basic carpentry skills and the ability to use common hand and power tools.
* Strong attention to detail and respect for finished surfaces.
* Dependability, good communication, and the ability to manage daily tasks independently.
* Willingness to handle both skilled repairs and routine cleanup.
* A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation between job sites.
* Ability to perform physical construction work, including lifting and carrying materials, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and working indoors and outdoors.

Would you give up a full basement to save money on your new home—and how much would you need to save to make it worthwhile?

A slab on grade can reduce construction costs compared to a full basement. But the bigger question is whether the savings are enough to justify giving up that space.

A basement can provide storage, room for mechanical equipment, and the possibility of future finished living space. On the other hand, some homeowners prefer having everything on one level and have no desire for a basement. Your lot, location, and how you plan to use the home all matter.

In this video, I discuss that cost comparison and show why planning is so important with a slab. Under-slab plumbing, electrical provisions, and in-floor heating need to be coordinated before the concrete is poured. Changes afterward can mean cutting into your new floor.

What’s one thing you wish you had done differently with your garage when you built your home?

We’re pouring a garage floor at one of our builds, and it got me thinking about how much attention goes into kitchens and bathrooms—while garage decisions sometimes get left until the last minute.

Garage size, door height, outlets, lighting, floor finish, and storage space are all worth thinking through before the work starts. Some changes are much easier to make on paper than after construction.

If you’ve already built, what garage feature are you glad you included—or wish you had?

I’d love to hear the reasons behind your answers. Your experience could help someone in this group who is planning their home right now.
