Eric Blomberg's Fine Line Design

Eric Blomberg's Fine Line Design I never design a building before I’ve seen the site and met the people who will be using it.

— Frank Lloyd Wright

At Fine Line Building & Design we believe that we are all functions of our environment, natural and manmade. Our goal is to create a well-designed manmade environment for our customers to enhance their natural well being for many years to come. But now in 2021 I’ve retired from building as I’ve known it. Design is still ongoing, and I’m doing more cabinetry/furniture/“art” pieces than I could before. I’ll be adding some of that work soon, stay tuned.

This piece was made for my sister to replace a cabinet that she had inherited from my mother that had lived it’s life beyond the redemption date. I used White Oak from Trinity County, California. This cabinet was designed to be paired with an existing upper cabinet that still has life in it.

I finished 5 chorreadors today, cleaned up a 6th. Great for coffee or tea, these will be featured in next month’s show at the Siskiyou Art Museum in Dunsmuir. Lots of other pieces will be shown; furniture, tables, sculpture, found objects. There’s no reception, but all consideration is given to keeping people safe.

This ratty old porch on an old cabin was recently transformed. Exterior siding, windows and trim by local Robin Winters, posts, deck and steps by me. The manzanita branch will be the new handrail.

This is a cabin restoration, I did not do the siding though. The old porch came off, 3 posts became 4, and a new cedar porch installed. Steps to follow, plus a handrail. The roof was supported on temporary posts and piers while the new posts and girder went in.

Here’s the finished product, the (spalted) Maple Table. It’s only dry-fitted right now, ready for final glue and clamping.
Intended as an end table, the top is 19-1/2” x 23-3/4”, 22” high.
One pic shows the edge, a section of which was carved to add to the live edge look next to it. Both sides were done. The pedestal is redwood burl, the foot is actually redwood bark. The braces are Oregon Ash, from my property. It’s pretty much what I imagined when I saw the pieces, came out better than I had hoped.

This is spalted maple, two book-matched pieces I found recently in Oregon. Very soft and spongey, it’s got multiple coats of epoxy to solidify it. The pedestal is redwood, from the same source. The supports are maple, the foot is actually redwood bark. Almost ready for finish. It’s about 24”Lx19”Wx22”H.

Our recent deck project, 2x6 KD cedar with steel cable railing. There’s a large shade sail which will add comfort on hot summer days, both on the deck and the house. We followed the grade line and got a pronounced acute angle, which overlooks the Trinity River canyon. The client’s adult daughter stood out at the point, spread her arms and declared it to be “just like the movie Titanic”! Perfect, mission accomplished.
