A BIT OF SEPTIC SYSTEM INFORMATION TO KEEP YOURS HEALTHY

Normal developement in a septic tank is sludge at the bottom, clear effluent in the middle and a scum layer on top. The "crust" is made up of Fats (cooking residuals), Oils (body/skin/hair care products, soap) and Grease (petroleum products) and all the "floaters" such as hair. Not unusual to see a development of 2 to 3" in the time frame you are talking about.

A Example of a two person household with no laundry being done:

Two persons and the laundry waste is diverted, means you have a higher strength system than most residences. removal of the laundry waste means less "water" so less "dilution" so a higher Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). So adding bacteria, without adding oxygen hasn't done much of anything ... the "septic" tank is "anaerobic" meaning it has low oxygen so can only support so much bacteria. Adding more just stresses what is already present. And adding Enzymes is the same. Also, stay away from the "Rid-X" stuff that implies that you will NEVER have to pump your tank. It's a lie - even says so in the small print on the bottle - and will "emulsify" your Fats, Oil and Grease and allow it out to the absorption field.

Adding an effluent screen is ALWAYS a good idea and if you go that route, you also need to add access risers to the tank. And some of these "suggestions" particularly from "anonymous" posters should be ignored!

Out on Decatur Island for a few more jobs! I think we actually like the smaller islands anymore the barges are more dependable then the ferries!
We have met some great island people also!

En route to Decatur Island for a new installation. The dirt roads are surrounded by a beautiful forest that you drive through on the island. I find each island in San Juan County to have distinct characteristics, yet all are equally impressive.

Died,12 May 2008 (aged 98) Warsaw, Poland

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in theWarsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive'. She KNEW what the N**i's plans were for the Jews (being German).

Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids).

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the N**i soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the N**i's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family.
Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected. President Obama won one year before becoming President for his work as a community organizer for ACORN and Al Gore won also --- for a slide show on Global Warming.

Summer time is the time to take care of your septic system repairs and/or installs. It is only February and we are already getting booked for spring/summer installs between Skagit and San Juan counties, it's going to be busy!

It's getting closer to Halloween. I still get excited, reminds me of all the times taking our own children out. What a great memory trick or treating with them and usually in the snow and cold!
Enjoy time with your little ones! I myself love seeing them out and about in their costumes, stay safe and remember to have them brush their teeth!! ( lol )

I hired Louie of Absolute SOS to build an RV pad including installing a holding tank and pump with connection to existing septic system. I'm a very picky customer and let me tell you I was extremely pleased with Louie, his workmanship and fair price. He designed the system, told me everything that he was going to do and he went above and beyond that. I was so pleased with Louie that I hired him for a second job.
