⛈️ Rain! So much rain! 🌧️

It was a dry spring.
The kind of dry that I thought the grass was going to wither away.

But God sent us a blessing:
A full 10 days of rain! All over Oklahoma!
Even in the Panhandle that hasn’t had rain since November 2025!

The pasture exploded with plant life!

You’ll never guess the fertilizer I used.
Manure and blood.

That’s right, blood. Octopus’ blood.
I told you, **nothing** went to waste.

You’ll have to stay tuned for the recipe 😉

Octopus was an absolute menace 🐙 😝

With the mental capacity of a three year old, he left his mark all over the farm. Like the dented barn, broken fence, burnt down well house, my left knee.

But man, he was loved. Cherished. Kissed and scratched every day. He was such a puppy.

Octopus’ season on Earth has come to an end.
To fully honor him, none of him went to waste.

Backyard Butchery came to my farm to process him. I was present when he was dispatched.
The last thing he heard was me.

They let me keep everything.
Bones. Blood. Skull. Hide. Everything.
All discard was placed in my compost pile.

I am beyond grateful.
The experience wasn’t as scary as I thought. Tiffany and Damon made everything easy and seamless.
There was no fear or stress with anyone.

And it was only $800!

Quality. Affordable. Convenient.
A very rare trifecta.

When I returned home to Oklahoma, after an incredible family loss,my sweet friend and chicken mentor didn’t offer to bring food or flowers. She offered me three little girls to heal my heart. If you’re not a chicken person, you don’t understand the peace that comes from loving and raising these babies. They make you smile on the daily, and they definitely help heal your heart. Such an incredible gift from such an incredible person! I’m so excited to get my new little luvs! Meet Coconut!

We didn't get rain today but there was still waterworks! 🥹

Today I felt the first fetal movements in my pregnant heifers.

Strawberry and Daisy's babies were pretty quiet, but Honey's baby was moving! Smacking and head butting my hand. I think it's a little boy 😉

This was physical confirmation of two years of hard work paying off. I must confess I got a little emotional.

In addition to palpating, they got dewormed, another Multimin 90 injection, and blood drawn for a Bovine Leukemia recheck.

It's been six months since we culled our beautiful BLV+ bull. I pray the girls did not contract BLV!
