A new growing season is upon us, for both good turf, and bad turf - bad as in CRABGRASS. For those of you who are existing clients, we will be starting our pre-emergent crabgrass control applications in approximately 2 weeks.

For those of you who are in need of lawn fertilizing and lawn pest controls, please contact us (call, text, email, or DM) for information on the services we provide. We can provide an estimate for most lawns within 24 hours.

Pictured are two common types of crabgrass in PA - the larger, "hairy" crabgrass found mostly in patchy, bare areas of the lawn and along the edges of hard, hot surfaces; and the smooth, "summer" crabgrass, which is usually found inside the existing good turf stands. Both crabgrass types will compete with the good grass species for the space they are growing in, and WIN. And SPREAD. Don't let crabgrass win. Call us now.

Our warm, wet late spring has almost passed. But its impact has not. Left behind, and showing up in residential and commercial lawns, is Dollar Spot and Red Thread fungus.

Red Thread is usually reduced by applying Nitrogen, which we just finished doing for our Spring w**d and feed application. But Dollar Spot isn't as cooperative, and can persist and grow into larger patches. These patches can leave bare areas in your lawn as summer arrives, and new grass is not likely to grow in at those spots.

The solution is to apply a fungicide now. If it is persistent, it may require a second fungicide application in 2-3 weeks. But it will save you from losing larger areas of good turf. The fungicide can also act as a preventative for Summer Patch fungus, which can already be around but won't reveal damage until late Summer.

If you suspect you have a problem with fungus in your lawn, contact us for a free estimate for a fungicide spray application. We try to spot these problems while on site, but we cannot be everywhere, all the time. We are just a call away.

SHODAN Lawn Care and Landscaping is currently operating as an "essential" business/service, as per Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf's Executive Order. We want our clients, and other public members, to know we take this situation very seriously, and are taking precautions to minimize all contact when operating.

We work as singular individuals when operating on residential and commercial property. We also include use of hand sanitizer and hand washing, as described by the CDC. We strictly adhere to social distancing if we happen to meet you while fertilizing your lawn. We love to see you! But at a safe distance (for now).
