Noticed what looks like steam rising from your outdoor heat pump on a cold morning? Before you worry, it may just be your system doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

When frost builds up on the outdoor unit during colder weather, your heat pump automatically goes through a defrost cycle to melt the ice. During this process, you might see steam rising from the unit or hear it making different sounds than usual, and that's completely normal.
