October 2025 ::: we used 10 tons of gravel and lots of reclaimed items from the space to transform this yard! The clients wanted a low maintenance area for their kids and dogs to play, little did we know how much the kids would love playing with these rocks (and I fear their house is now also full of rocks 😬😬) swipe through to see a before pic!

We had a lot of fun moving around things we found in the yard to create natural borders, and then we moved 10 tons of rocks 😅It was Sairah’s maybe second week working with us and she took on shoveling a lot of the gravel pile by herself which is beyond amazing ….. that’s like 20,000 pounds of rock … wrap your mind around that one 🙃

We’re now booking out for February 2026 (sorry January is already full!!), and it’s an especially good time to start thinking about your spring garden projects. We’re excited to plant even more native gardens and maybe a miyawaki forest or two in the new year …. As always, please reach out to schedule a consult via text or email! Info in our bio 🌱🌱🧱🧱💚

September/October 2025 ::::

posting this project in opposite order so you can see all the materials present in the yard, and how they were re-used to create several areas of use!

What started as a whole lot of bricks (and roots), now includes native plants, raised beds with flowers and herbs for the kid to plant in, and soft grass for the doggies to sun bathe on !

We reused some of the bricks to build the edge of the bed, and also incorporated a terracotta planter also found in the yard.

Special thanks to the clients who were a pleasure to work with! I always love building things with dogs and kids in mind, and this space has a little something for everyone 🌱🌱

May 2025 and October 2025 - a multi phase project that I’m excited to finally be able to share the ‘final result’ of …..swipe all the way through for a big surprise 😁.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to choose pictures of this yard because there are so many cool nooks and crannies of it, so many little details and choices. From the design of the bricks, to the planting plan, this yard was a beautiful exercise in both planning and intuition. I did a good amount of ‘sleeping on it’ when the client and I considered design decisions, along with asking the crew how things ‘felt’ - we walked the curves, pretended to have a meal in the seating areas, talked about sight lines and flow. This is how we build all our spaces - with not only functionality but also feeling in mind.

By the end of it all, I couldn’t get over how it FELT really good back there - made me think about the power of space, how the places we create include a little bit of the spirit of every person involved. That spirit will always be in the soil, along with all the energies of the people before us. It’s visceral, and it’s a responsibility.

What a joy to work with this client! Thanks for your patience while we worked through the many iterations of this project, and for the best beverages a crew could ask for 🥲. We hope you enjoy the yard for years to come, can’t wait to see what the grow in looks like this spring!!

Finally have a snippet of time to start posting the backlog of project photos I have 😅😅

July 2025 - mom and I built a stone path and planted out the remaining grass in her front yard! We used reclaimed stones (full of cool fossils), and broken terracotta pieces to fill the gaps.

I love working with mom because we like similar stuff (reusable materials, makin things, being outside), but have very different methodologies. She envisioned the curve of the pathway, and we worked together to puzzle piece the ***very*** heavy stones. While I dug away in the thick clay ground, she meticulously crushed the terra-cotta between the cracks.

Reminded me that what I originally loved most about landscaping was building with other people, and working with stones! I’m so grateful to have a mom whose into that stuff too - who will climb big dirt piles and throw rocks down to me, get muddy, and fiddle with a curve until it’s ‘’just right’’. 💚💚

Our first client to get certified as a native habitat! Grateful to NPIGNO for all the work they’re doing to create knowledge around native plants, and all the support they provide to those of us growing them!

And a special shout out to these long time clients who have been amazing to work with over the years 💚

It’s another episode of ‘wow that grew in fast’!!

This grass turned ecosystem was planted last fall (less than a year ago), and the summer rain has brought it into some serious splendor!

Been really into textures lately, and this combo of wrinkle leaf goldenrod and rattlesnake master is doing a lot for me 🤤. There’s also irises, texas star, swamp sunflower, clustered bushmint, and a couple other species popping up in there!

If you didn’t get the message already, fall is a great time to get your native plant garden started! We still have a couple spots left on the schedule for this fall, please text or email to set up a consult and get the process started!
