The meeting (lower) rail of the upper sash is most vulnerable to rot and failure due to the flat interior surface and weight of the glass. You can see the where the nail holding the tenon in place has pulled through the wood and the resulting gap at the middle tenon. To fix it we:
1) square the sash up and secure the tenons with wooden pegs
2) consolidate the soft wood and fill checks (cracks) with Wood Epox
3) replace missing wood with a wood Dutchman repair or Wood Epox

Look at these beauties! This are the windows with the lifts I posted pictures of earlier. They are in a Spanish Mission style home in Uptown New Orleans built with structural terra cotta blocks, about 100 years old. At one point the sashes and frames and hardware were all painted metallic gold - wish I could travel back in time and see what that room looked like back then.
