Melted EV car charger plug

My Dad had an EV charging station installed and the other day the plug completely fried. Hoping to get some insight as to where you guys think the system failed.

50A breaker Charging unit set to 80% max of that. Black wire is clearly the part that got hot.

Planning to completely replace the chargepoint. New plug, cut the wire back to where the insulation is in good shape.

But do we need to consider the breaker? The overall line to the plug?
