I was playing around, experimenting and this ended uo reminding me of a casino chip. I leaned into it with the phrasing and dollar sign.

Bet it all on yourself.

New York colors, then the house colors with my Branded Baron blue, and the last one was just to see what it’d look like for the fun of it.

I’m going to put more work out there, finished or not. I was told it was better to have work out there and not sitting on a hard drive. It all doesn’t have to be some case study.

It’s still baseball season and this is new work. I decided to build out my own baseball team with a full custom branding.

I had the eastern collared lizard help with the color palette as it has a green body, blue banding, a yellow throat that looks lit from inside. The hardest color question in the project was answered before I started.

Everything else came out of one drawing. Full-body mascot first, because that sets the line weight and proportion every other mark inherits. From alternative secondary marks, to the baseball caps, merch, uniforms, to what a costumed mascot named Laz would look like, I put my creative mind into designing something fun. I made brand guidelines that would be useful for vendors and internally as I wanted to really have fun but take this personal project serious just like I would with any other client.

I took this photo of Dennis Knight after one of our many dinners at what I would say is one of the best places to grab a burger in NYC. We’d chat about business, comic books, life, the stuff you discuss with friends.

On one sunny fall day we went together to a New York Comic Con. One booth was giving away b**r, so naturally we grabbed some and went on our jolly little way. Creating a comic book was mentioned and I told him that he should do it AND HE DID. This man published comic books and written for many other indie books. He always liked to say that it was my fault, I have him signing a book that says, “it’s still all your fault” followed by his signature.

Dennis supported when I focused on this company as a tshirt brand first, he became a client helping him design his comic book logo, and some personal graphics. I had reshares of the podcast clips, he was a supporter. He was one of those people that if you needed him, you call/text and he’ll be there. He was always good company. A good person. While, I should have recorded an episode because the comic industry is an interesting, I’m glad I had a friend. I’m glad I was able to capture this moment while we were joking outside.

Great conversation with Rocky Roark of Blue Cyclops. We talk bad design advice, the importance of side projects, even the how to create engagement on LinkedIn that can lead to work. It's worth listening to.

Ever catch yourself wondering if it’s time for a rebrand, and then just not deciding? That’s most business owners. Not because the answer is hard, but because nobody wants to audit their own brand honestly.

So I made it easy. The Brand Refresh Checklist: 6 signs, that’ll take you roughly two minutes and you’ll earn one honest score.

Check what’s true, add it up, and you’ll know exactly where you stand whether you need to hold steady, refresh, or rebuild.

And no, this isn’t a quiz that tells everyone they need to hire someone. If you score a 0–2, the right answer is to leave your brand alone. Rebranding out of boredom is how you torch equity you spent years building.

But if you’ve been feeling that gap between how your business has grown and how it looks? That feeling has a number now.

People chase trends because success stories are loud and failures are quiet. Of course everyone who succeeds on a platform will tell you to get on X platform. It worked for them.

For example, if your reels aren’t working, stop asking “what’s working for them” and start asking yourself “what am I actually trying to achieve.
