For Week 2 of our Multi-Family design series, we are taking you inside one of our standout residential projects.

Previously, ENV Senior Project Designer Jen Boyd shared that great multi-family design "creates a sense of home before a resident even moves in." At Chasen, our Virginia team brought that exact philosophy to life. We focused heavily on crafting inviting, dynamic community spaces that perfectly complement the developer-led unit layouts. These shared spaces balance a beautiful atmosphere with the everyday functionality that residents need.

Meet Jennifer Boyd, Senior Project Designer in our New York office. 👋

To kick off our month-long focus on Multi-Family design, we are spotlighting Jen, who brings over a decade of interior design experience to the ENV team. Jen’s career journey recently took her from our Virginia office to New York, allowing her to build on her strong foundation with ENV while gaining fresh perspectives in a new, fast-paced market.

For Jen, interior design is all about the connection between people and the spaces they move through every day. "Great multi-family design creates a sense of home before a resident even moves in," she shares.

For , our team rejected standard institutional models to create a boutique, hospitality-driven environment where clients feel instantly valued, comfortable, and seen.

The wait is over! While you may have caught a few glimpses of The Chasen across social media over the last few months, we’ve been holding out until every phase was officially complete, and the final photography was captured. It was absolutely worth the wait. 📸

Located in the heart of Richmond’s Scott’s Addition, this 318,000 SF, 352-unit development transformed a former three-acre industrial facility into a premier residential destination. ENV was thrilled to lead the interior architecture for the expansive amenity spaces across all three buildings.

Our goal was to elevate the standard multifamily experience, designing a classy, sophisticated environment that still honors the neighborhood's gritty heritage. From the striking whiskey lounge and its floating fireplace to the expansive views from the ski lounge, every detail was intentionally designed to create a cohesive, timeless experience.

A huge thank you to the visionary project partners who made this transformative urban revitalization effort possible, and a special shoutout to Whitney, Laura, Jennifer, and the entire internal design team for their exceptional dedication and hard work from the initial concept development through project completion.

Behind every finished space is a process that brings it to life. 

The Orange High School Culinary Program didn’t happen overnight. From early demolition to final installation, ENV remained actively engaged throughout construction, working alongside contractors, coordinating with the district, and ensuring every detail aligned with the design intent. Navigating an active school environment, tight timelines, and existing conditions required constant collaboration and real-time problem solving. 

These moments captured in progress tell the real story. It’s where planning meets ex*****on, and where ENV’s role as a partner continues beyond design, helping guide the project through construction to deliver a space ready to perform on day one.

From concept to completion, the Orange High School Culinary Program Renovation was about more than upgrading a space, it was about creating opportunity.
 
ENV worked closely with the district to transform an outdated classroom into a fully functional, industry-inspired culinary environment that supports hands-on learning, real-world skill building, and student confidence. Every decision was driven by how the space would be used, ensuring that the design aligns with both educational goals and the realities of a working kitchen.
 
Today, that impact is visible in the students. They are learning in a space that reflects the professional world they are preparing to enter, gaining skills that extend far beyond the classroom. For ENV, this project represents what we strive for in every engagement: designing environments that directly support growth, performance, and long-term success.

“Communities thrive when they have character and a strong sense of place.” 🏠✨

Meet Ashleigh Brewer, Project Architect in our Richmond, Virginia office and the first feature in our new ENV Employee Spotlight series!

Ashleigh brings nearly a decade of expertise in housing and historic renovation to the team, but her impact goes far beyond the drawing board. She’s a fierce advocate for both the past and the future of Virginia’s architecture:

• Preserving History: She was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Roller-Bottimore Foundation, supporting historic preservation across the state.
• Mentoring Future Architects: She volunteers with VA NOMA Project Pipeline, helping 8th-12th grade students of color discover the world of design.
• Civic Leadership: She spent several years on the Richmond Commission of Architectural Review, helping shape the city's Old and Historic Districts.

Great design grows from strong relationships. At ENV, our work with the University of Mount Saint Vincent reflects more than a single project; it’s an ongoing partnership. From major campus renovations to smaller, in-between upgrades, we collaborate closely with our clients to support their evolving needs, delivering thoughtful design solutions that enhance daily campus life over time.
