Street trees are subject to numerous stresses and many die each year. Among these are restricted root growth and insufficient water absorption resulting from inadequate, compacted pits. Enlarging pits/beds enables roots to expand and absorb more water. Storm water redirected into tree pits also reduces sewer overflow which helps alleviate the pollution of New York’s waterways.
