5 years ago today, we hit “publish” on our website.
Back then, Derek James Woodworking was a true side hustle fueled by late nights, dusty work boots, and big dreams. We started out running everything right from our basement garage—working late into the evening surrounded by stacks of lumber, saws, and a whole lot of sawdust!
In fact, it all kicked off with charcuterie boards—we made and shipped over 100 of them in our first 3 months alone.
Those early years were filled with loading up the truck before dawn, setting up tents at local craft markets, and hustling every weekend to get our name out there.Fast forward 5 years, and “so much has changed” feels like an understatement.
Today, our days look a little different:
✨ We made the leap out of our basement garage into our dedicated workshop space and welcomed our very first employee.
👶 We brought our sweet baby girl into the world—our biggest blessing and daily reminder of why creating warm, functional spaces matters so much.
🏡 We shifted from market tents and charcuterie boards to bringing full homes to life with custom furniture, built-in cabinetry, walk-in closets, and even a few commercial spaces.
While our shop and family have grown, what hasn’t changed is our commitment to quality craftsmanship, modern rustic design, and building pieces that truly make a house feel like home.
Whether you bought one of those original charcuterie boards at a local craft market, trusted us with a project back when we operated out of our garage, or recently let us build your dream custom cabinetry—thank you. We wouldn’t be here without this incredible community.
