VOCs are volatile organic compounds that paint can release into the air, which can cause headaches, dizziness, and eye irritation. Zero-VOC options are worth considering for homes with children, pets, or people with asthma and allergies.

They’re useful year-round, but deserve extra attention when cooler weather keeps the house closed up.

What should I do before my exterior painting project?

Before your exterior painting project, we ask you to do a few simple things to help the project run smoothly:

✅ Move vehicles away from the house
✅ Remove patio furniture, grills, planters, and other small items
✅ Trim back landscaping that touches the siding
✅ Close windows and secure pets
✅ Let us know about gates, alarm systems, damaged wood, or other concerns

How can you tell whether a new paint color will look good in your home?

Hold on to that leftover paint! As long as it's sealed well, it can last for up to 2 years. Keep it for small touch-ups, especially in high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, mudrooms, stairways, or kids’ rooms.

Make sure to label it with the room or surface where it was used. That saves a lot of guessing later.

And if you have old paint from years past, be careful with disposal. Latex paint can usually go out with curbside trash once it has hardened and the lid is removed,but oil or alkyd-based paint should be brought to a local recycling center.

Can you get a painting estimate over the phone or by email? For smaller projects, sometimes if you can share clear photos and a few project details. However, most of the time, an in-person visit is the best option.

Two homes that look similar from the outside can need very different levels of repair, preparation, products, or access. A job site visit helps the estimate be more accurate and fair for everyone.

ProTEK Painters can talk through your project, look at what needs to be done, and explain the best next step. We usually can get you an estimate the same day we visit or shortly after the next day.
