Ohio does not have "licensed roofers". But there is a huge difference between the long term business professionals and the fly by night "roofers". Less than 5% of the roofing companies survive 5 years in business. Do your research!!!

Gutters are about to become a major issue with all the recent ice. At **Always Be Fair Roofing**, we’re already seeing the early signs of what spring will bring.

If your home still has **spike-and-ferrule gutter fasteners** (the big nails), you’ll likely run into problems once everything thaws. This older installation method doesn’t hold up well against ice expansion and heavy snow loads. As the ice pushes outward, it loosens the wood where the spike enters, causing the gutters to pull away from the house.

A quick tap of the spike might make it *look* fixed, but the hole is already enlarged. Gravity, weight, and repeated freeze–thaw cycles will just cause the spikes to work themselves out again.

**The good news:** maintenance is simple. Adding modern, secure fasteners can extend the life of your gutters and prevent costly damage.

If you’d like a **free, comprehensive review and analysis** of your gutter system, give us a call, send us photos, or reach out through our website. We’re here to help you stay ahead of the problem.

The "Fast and Easy" Trap: Why Your Online Insurance Policy Might Be a $200,000 Mistake

A Public Service Announcement from a Property Claims Expert

"Save money!"
"Buy insurance online in minutes!"
"No agent, no commissions!"

We’ve all seen the commercials. They make insurance sound like buying a pair of socks—quick, cheap, and simple. But here is the truth they won't tell you: Insurance is a complex risk-transfer product, and "fast and easy" is often code for "unprotected."

Since 2020, I have handled over $30,000,000 in property claims. I’ve seen what happens when the "gray areas" of a policy meet real-world disasters. I am no longer a licensed agent, and I have no skin in the game other than wanting to see my community protected.

Here are three real-world stories of why a local, professional agent is worth more than the 15% you think you’re saving.

1. The $200,000 "Gray Area"

A homeowner bought a policy online five years ago. Over time, the occupancy of the home shifted slightly. When a pipe burst, causing over $200,000 in damage, the carrier denied the claim based on a policy exclusion that wasn't even clearly defined in the document.

The Agent Advantage: A local agent would have had check-in discussions over those five years. They would have identified the change in occupancy and adjusted the coverage appropriately before the pipe burst.

2. The Ghost Cancellation

A customer bought auto insurance online, then later changed their primary email and switched banks. Seven months later, they were in an accident with $15,000 in damage. They discovered their coverage had been cancelled months ago because an ACH payment failed. The notice was sent to an inbox they no longer checked.

The Agent Advantage: An agent who knows you—and lives in your town—doesn't just let a policy lapse silently. They track you down. they call you. They make sure a simple banking error doesn't result in a total financial loss.

3. The "Standard" Package Trap

A customer "saved 15%" by switching to a call-center carrier. When their sump pump failed, it caused $40,000 in damage to a finished basement. They then learned that their "standard" online package capped water backup at $7,500.

The Agent Advantage: A professional agent works to secure your business long-term. They aren't trying to hit a "minimum policy" quota; they are looking to protect your property. They know that a finished basement needs specific riders that a call center algorithm will ignore to keep the quote looking "cheap."

The Reality of the "Formula"

Insurance carriers want you to have a false sense of security. They all use similar formulas for risk, but they manipulate limits, exclusions, and riders to lower the price.

If you want transportation, you don't just buy the cheapest car possible without looking at the safety ratings or the size. You want it designed around your needs and your family. Why treat your entire net worth—your home and your liability—with less care than a used car?

The Verdict

The "McDonald’s" of insurance is fast and cheap, but it won't sustain you when things get tough. Insurance is a complex product that requires expertise and ongoing relationship-based discussion.

Don't be a statistic in a claims adjuster's folder. Use a local agent. Build a relationship with them. Coverage and protection must always be the priority over a "cheap" monthly price.
