As promised here are the final results of the porch with the new stairs. All mitered and returned stair treads with wrapped pvc deck board risers. All framed 12" on center because it only adds 2 more stringers and makes for a stronger set of stairs. With new westbury aluminum hand rails.

When your front porch starts looking a bit worn, it can totally change the vibe of your whole home.

We kicked things off by finding some solid wood in the beams to set up temporary bracing for the roof. This way, we could take out the rotten columns and get started on the floor. Next, we removed the old PVC porch flooring—unfortunately, it was beyond saving because of how it was installed. After that, we got to work on the rim joists and ended up tearing out 24 feet of the existing framing. We reframed the whole floor with treated lumber and laid down some new Weathered Teak PVC porch flooring. To keep water from sneaking into the old framing we couldn’t replace, we taped up all the new lumber. We also added new rim joists to the existing part of the porch and put in blocking to fit a picture frame board, which helps the water shed over the fascia instead of into the old framing.

Once the floor was done, we covered it with OSB to protect it while we checked out the ceiling beams. We took out the old porch ceiling to support the roof and swapped the front beam for two new 14" LVLs. After securing everything and cleaning up, we installed new Azek trim boards, beaded soffit, and crown molding to give the porch ceiling and beams a nice finish. Finally, we put in five new fluted posts with caps and bases made from fiberglass for extra durability. This project was a bit tricky since we had to follow a specific order to avoid damaging any of the AZEK trim and flooring.

Stay tuned for Phase 2 coming in a couple of weeks, where we’ll rebuild the front steps and add new handrails. Can’t wait to show you the finished project!

We kicked off our Saturday morning with a pergola build using Ownes Corning Lumber. There’s something satisfying about starting the weekend with a hands-on project and seeing progress take shape in just a few hours.

Working with quality lumber makes these builds smoother and more enjoyable. It’s always great to step back at the end of the morning and see the new structure ready for the next steps.

Thinking about adding a pergola to your space? Let’s talk ideas and options!

Heres a little sneak peek of a new back porch that we are currently building. Last fall we installed the 10ft Andersen sliding door. The porch will have timbertech porch floor to match the period of the house. The aluminum siding will be removed and cebard clapboard with a 4 inch exposure will be installed. Just wait until you see how this porch turns out.

Recent project wrap-up. 🛠️ Always rewarding to see the final results after focusing on the details—especially with the tile work in the kitchen and bath. This one came together for a really clean, modern finish.
