KolyRocksPON is officially in its spooky season era! 🖤🌱 My signature PON mix is back with the black lava rock we all love, blended with white pumice + green zeolite for the perfect chunky, airy mix.

This is the exact mix I use for my Alocasia, Anthurium & Hoyas, and they are absolutely thriving! 🌿😍

My heart is so full after spending the day at Plantmania in Austin! 💚🌿

One of my favorite parts of every plant event isn’t just the plants—it’s the people. Getting to catch up with so many amazing friends, meeting fellow plant lovers, and seeing familiar faces that have supported me from the very beginning means more than you know.

To everyone who stopped by to say hi, gave me a hug, shared your plant stories, or reminded me why I love this community so much… thank you. Your kindness, encouragement, and support never go unnoticed.

Seeing some of my biggest fans and biggest supporters this weekend was the highlight of my day. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. This plant community is something special, and I’m so grateful to be a small part of it. 💚🪴

Pumice is one of the key ingredients in PON because it helps create a healthy root environment without breaking down over time. Here are the biggest benefits for indoor plants:

* 🪨 Excellent aeration: Pumice has thousands of tiny air pockets that keep oxygen flowing to the roots. Healthy roots need oxygen just as much as they need water.
* 💧 Balances moisture: Unlike soil, pumice absorbs a small amount of water and slowly releases it back to the roots. This helps prevent roots from drying out too quickly while avoiding overly wet conditions.
* 🌱 Encourages stronger roots: The combination of air and consistent moisture encourages thicker, healthier root systems that are less prone to rot.
* 🚫 Reduces root rot risk: Because pumice drains well and doesn’t stay soggy, excess water moves away from the roots more easily, reducing the chance of root rot.
* 🪴 Provides stability: Its rough texture helps anchor plants securely, even after washing away soil during the transition to semi-hydro.
* ♻️ Long-lasting and reusable: Pumice is an inert volcanic rock that doesn’t decompose like organic potting mixes. It can be cleaned, sterilized, and reused for years.
* 🦟 Discourages fungus gnats: Since there’s no organic matter for fungus gnat larvae to feed on, infestations are much less common than in traditional potting soil.
* 🌿 Works well with self-watering systems: Pumice helps wick moisture throughout the substrate while still maintaining plenty of air space, making it ideal for semi-hydroponic growing.

In a PON mix, pumice works alongside lava rock and zeolite, with each serving a different purpose:

* Pumice: Moisture retention and aeration.
* Lava rock: Structure, airflow, and capillary wicking.
* Zeolite: Water retention and nutrient-holding capacity through ion exchange.

Together, these three components create a substrate that provides consistent moisture, excellent oxygen availability, and long-term stability—making it especially well suited for plants like Alocasia, Anthurium, Philodendron, Monstera, and other tropical houseplants.
