Mums: the classic fall flower. Chrysanthemums are ubiquitous in the fall garden scape. Few plants give such a colorful show during fall in cold-winter climates. You can find garden mums in any color except for true blue. Different mum flower forms;
• Decorative flowers are double, with tightly overlapping rows of petals.
• Daisy flowers are single with narrow petals radiating out from the center.
• Spoon flowers are similar to daisies, but with half of the petal “quilled,” or rolled into a tube.

Crops to Plant in Late Summer
Choose plants that either grow quickly or do not mind a touch of frost when they are close to maturity. Generally a "light frost" indicates temps in the low 30's (degrees F), while a "hard frost" is below 32 degrees F.
