We want to take a moment to highlight an organization that quietly does incredible work in our community: Stray to Spay🐾

As a tree service, we often encounter feral and stray cats living in woodpiles and brush. When those situations come up, responsible care matters—to the animals, to our crews, and to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Stray to Spay has stepped in for us more than once when other rescues were at capacity. They help us do the right thing: trap, neuter, vaccinate, and return cats humanely so populations don’t spiral and animals can live healthier lives.

They’re currently running a giveaway to support their work, and we’re sharing it because we’ve seen firsthand how much of a difference they make—often behind the scenes, often on their own time, always with care.

If you’re able to support or share their post, it truly helps.

Today our family accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Marvin “Marv” Steinbach, founder of Marv’s Tree Service. His is a legacy 60+ years in the making 🌳

Marv passed away in 2024, just before the company he built reached its 60-year mark and before he could receive this award. He had retired, but the trees, and the people he served, were caingl him back. He came out of retirement and proudly called himself a tree man until only 2 months before he passed.

If he were here today, he would be incredibly honored—not by the recognition itself, but by seeing his values carried forward by the people he loved.

Pictured here are two of the three generations shaped by that legacy:

• Yvonne, Marv’s wife and partner from the very beginning, who helped build the company alongside him
• Trish, owner and certified arborist, carrying the business forward with care, integrity, and leadership
• Mike, arborist and aerial climber/operator, continuing the hands-on tradition in the canopy

More than sixty years ago, Marv started this company with a rope, a work ethic, and deep respect for trees and people. That foundation still guides everything we do today.

This award belongs to him, to our family, to the crews who gave their labor and care, and to the community that trusted us across generations. We are deeply grateful to continue this work. 💚

Thank you to the Nebraska Arborists Association for honoring the man, the myth, and the legend that paved the way for generations to follow.

🌳 Is My Tree Safe? The Truth No One Really Talks About… Here’s the honest truth:
If you have a tree on your property, you have some level of risk.

That might sound scary, but it’s not meant to be.
It’s meant to be real — and help you make smart, informed choices.

Last week’s storm proved what we see all the time:
Branches that looked healthy and “safe” came crashing down.
Meanwhile, a massive limb with a vertical crack so deep you could see through it… stayed standing.

(Yes, really. Scroll to see the photos. 👇)

Why?
Because nature doesn’t follow our logic. Wind direction, weight distribution, species behavior, decay, internal structure — it all matters.
You can’t always see the most dangerous branch from the ground.

That’s why we’re careful with the word “safe.”

Here’s what we do recommend:
✅ Regular visual inspections from the ground – A good practice to spot obvious issues.
✅ Routine pruning intervals – The best practice. Getting up into the canopy gives us a bird’s-eye view you just can’t get from the yard. That’s where hidden cracks, weak unions, and decay are often revealed.

We want to be clear:
We need trees.
They give us shade, beauty, habitat, oxygen — and something that just feels like home.
We don’t remove them unless it’s absolutely necessary. Our job is to help you keep your trees healthier, longer — while minimizing risk to your family and home.

We’ve been helping Omaha families do just that for over 60 years.
We’re licensed arborists who don’t just cut — we care.
We assess, advise, and work with you to understand the real condition of your trees, not just the cosmetic ones.

So if this storm left you wondering about a tree or limb on your property, reach out.
We’ll give you honest, professional insight — no scare tactics. Just care and clarity.

Because peace of mind grows best under healthy trees. 🌿

When you’ve worked with the same families for years, it stops feeling like a job — and starts feeling like showing up for a neighbor. 💞

One of our longtime customers reached out with a photo of a limb hanging on their roof. We know their yard. We know their trees. And most importantly — we know them.

So we were there the very next day.

Their neighbor sent us this sweet photo of her two boys watching from the window, totally captivated by the crew. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

At Marv’s Tree Service, we’re not just a company. We’re a family-owned business that’s been caring for Omaha’s trees — and the people who live beside them — for over 60 years.

We’re licensed arborists who know our stuff. But more than that, we care. About your safety. Your property. And the trust you place in us.

Because when you’ve trusted us year after year, that doesn’t go unnoticed — it means everything. 🌿

🦋🌱This is our annual reminder to bee kind 🐝 and leave habitat for all the little bugs and critters that have an important job to do! 🐛 🐞 🐜

The weather is beautiful this week, but resist the urge to clean up flower beds too soon! Leaves are not litter—they shelter life, including luna moth cocoons that overwinter beneath them. Take time to enjoy the weather and pick up any trash or debris that may have blown in, but keep the leaves in place to protect pollinators and beneficial insects. 🍂🦋

We think Omaha residents will find this super interesting! 🌪 Nebraska’s Biggest Storms! (What this means for our trees below)🌳

According to Omaha Public Power District, the July 31, 2024, windstorm was the most damaging storm in Nebraska’s recent history, causing an estimated 220,000 power outages. But beyond the electrical impact, many veteran arborists agree—this was one of the most devastating storms for trees that they’ve ever witnessed.

🚨 The Aftermath: What Homeowners Need to Know
While we saw immediate storm damage—snapped limbs, uprooted trees, and structural failures—the true impact of this storm will play out over the next 1-2 years. Trees that were weakened or stressed by these high winds may not show visible decline right away, but they become prime targets for:

✅ Pest & Disease Invasions – Stressed trees are vulnerable to borers (like emerald ash borer), fungi, and bacterial infections.
✅ Structural Instability – Hidden cracks and root damage may not be noticeable until a secondary storm or ice load causes failure.
✅ Delayed Dieback – Even if a tree looks “okay” now, unseen internal damage can cause slow decline or dieback in the coming seasons.

💡 What Can You Do?
🌳 Schedule an Arborist Inspection – If your trees were affected, an expert can assess structural integrity and recommend proactive care.
🌿 Mulching & Proper Watering – Supporting tree recovery with good soil health can improve resilience.
🪵 Consider Preventative Pruning – Removing compromised limbs now may prevent bigger issues later.
