You cannot see the bottom of this gutter. That is the only test that matters, and we are not through hurricane season yet.
This is a gutter on a Central Florida home right before we cleaned it.
A packed gutter is a nuisance in April. During hurricane season it is a failure. Rain arrives faster than a clogged trough can move it, so the water goes over the front edge or worse, behind the gutter and down the fascia board.
On many homes around here, that fascia is the same board the pool enclosure is anchored to. Rotted fascia means a compromised anchor point, and that is a far larger repair than a gutter cleaning would have been.
Three things worth checking before the next system:
✅ Depth, if you cannot see the bottom of the trough, it is full. It does not need to be overflowing yet to be a problem.
✅ Staining, dark vertical marks on the fascia behind the gutter mean water has already been going the wrong way.
✅ Separation, a gutter pulling away from the house is carrying weight it was never designed to hold. Wet leaf litter and debris are heavier than most people expect.
