SATURDAY STORMS: Confidence is increasing that severe thunderstorms will impact Ohio on Saturday.
The Storm Prediction Center has now placed Northeast Ohio under an "Enhanced" or level 3-out-of-5 risk for Saturday afternoon. The main threat is widespread damaging wind that my impact many communities. The greatest risk for damaging straight line wind is in northeast Ohio (pink shading on the middle map). However, anywhere in Ohio does have the potential for strong wind, with decreasing risk heading southwest.
According to the latest data, a "spin-up" tornado risk is also apparent. This means, that while straight line wind remains the primary threat, a few storms in the mid-afternoon could rotate before merging into a strong line that will move south across the state.
TIMING: Northeast Ohio will likely see storms first, possibly as early as 3 PM. Then, NW Ohio will be next, followed by Central Ohio in the early evening. Southern Ohio may be impacted closer to sunset, but storms could still be strong.
