Before & After: What a Dirty Evaporator Coil Can Do to Your HVAC System

These photos show the difference a professional evaporator coil cleaning can make.

The last two photos are before cleaning. The coil was heavily impacted with dust and debris, restricting the amount of air that could pass through it. The first two photos show the coil after cleaning, with the airflow path opened back up.

A dirty indoor coil can cause:

* Reduced airflow and comfort
* Higher heating and cooling costs
* AC coil freeze-ups
* Excessive furnace temperature rise
* Longer run times and unnecessary stress on the equipment

This is also a good example of why simply changing the filter doesn’t always tell the whole story. Dirt can build up on the indoor coil over the years where homeowners never see it.

Clean coil = better airflow = a healthier HVAC system.

💧 A clogged AC drain can turn into expensive water damage fast.

This system’s condensate drain was clogged so badly that almost no water was making it out of the drain line. We cleared the blockage, restored proper drainage, and then took it one step further.

We installed a new EZ Trap with a safety switch. If the drain backs up again, the switch can shut the system down before the condensate pan overflows and causes water damage.

It’s a small upgrade that can prevent a much bigger problem.

🔥 When a swamp cooler goes down in a warehouse, you FEEL it.

This commercial evaporative cooler needed some serious attention. Instead of automatically recommending replacement, we got to work repairing the existing equipment and getting it back in operation.

Swamp coolers are workhorses for warehouses and commercial buildings here in Colorado, but bearings, shafts, belts, pulleys, pumps and other components eventually wear out. Catching and repairing those problems can keep the equipment running and help avoid the much bigger expense of premature replacement.

When a Job Gets Complicated, We Focus on Getting It Fixed Right

We were called out to this home at the request of an electrician friend who wanted a trusted HVAC company to help get the homeowner’s system back up and running.

From what we were told, there had been a dispute involving the previous HVAC company and payment, and it appears some components may have been removed from the system afterward.

We weren’t there to get involved in what happened between the homeowner and the previous contractor. Our job was simple: figure out what the system needed and get it fixed properly.

We identified what was missing, made the necessary repairs, and worked to get the system operating the way it should again.

At Ryde Air, we believe in straightforward recommendations, quality workmanship, and treating people fairly.

There’s a Right Way to Clean an AC Coil! 💦❄️

Here’s my son giving this outdoor coil a proper cleaning — from the inside out.

Your AC pulls air through the condenser coil, which means dirt, dust, cottonwood, grass, and other debris can get packed into it over time. By cleaning from the inside out, we push that buildup back out instead of driving it deeper into the coil.

A clean coil means better airflow, better efficiency, lower stress on the system, and better cooling performance when you need it most.

Simple DIY Mistake Turned Into a Bigger Repair

This homeowner replaced their own run capacitor to get the AC running again. Unfortunately, the capacitor wasn’t properly secured in the mounting bracket.

As the system ran, the capacitor shifted inside the electrical compartment and shorted out—turning what could have been a simple repair into a more expensive service call.

DIY repairs can save money when they’re done correctly, but even small details like properly securing components matter. Air conditioners contain high-voltage electrical parts, and a loose connection or improperly mounted component can cause additional damage.
