It has been a busy summer for me here at "The Base." Sorry I have not posted much but I am trying to get better at keeping you up to date. Here are just some of the things I have had going on over the summer.
I went to Monsterpaloosa for the first time this year. An absolutely amazing show with tons of talent being presented. So much cool stuff, so little cash or room to keep it. I put a bunch of photos in an album if you want to take a look.
While I was there in California, I got a chance to take a tour of ADI thanks to my good friend and mentor Jim Lawrence. I even got to meet the guys behind ADI, Tom Woodruff, Jr and Alec Gillis. Super nice and very accommodating even though they were in the middle of another major project. While we could not go behind the scenes because of the project they were working on, I did get to look around their shop showroom. Absolutely incredible work.
Next, I caught up with Steve Wang and his talented crew at his workshop. Steve gave us the tour personally which made it all the better. Another really super nice guy that is very open with his time. They had some larger than life statues that looked so real I was intimidated to approach. Even and inches away you could not tell that they were silicone and paint. Absolutely amazing work. Thank you again, Jim, for arranging this and a Huge Thank You to Steve and his crew for taking the time to chat with us.
In June made my annual pilgrimage to Wonderfest in Louisville, KY. If you are into sci-fi or figure modeling then this is the show for you. No photos of this trip, sorry. I just did not have the time to step away from my booth. It was great catching up with all my model friends and customers again. See you guys later this year.
Another first this year was Boy Scout Summer Camp. Both of my sons are Scouts as was I when I was their age. While I have been to BSA summer camp as a kid, this was the first time as an adult leader. We had a great time and are looking forward to it again this year.
Finally, I went to Jerseyfest in early September. Yet another first for me. This was a smaller show but they are growing. I had a great time but once again no photos because I did not have time to leave the booth. Made some new friends and had a great time in general. I will definitely be adding this show to my schedule this year. Jerseyfest caters to more figure and horror modelers but there is a little bit of everything there. It is definitely worth a look.
Well, that wraps my summer. How was yours?
