3D LiDAR scan of the site of one of our next projects.
The large dots are the various scan locations where the LiDAR scanner was physically positioned. Each scan creates a "point cloud" representing every object and surface within its field of view. Each scan's location is registered so all the individual scans can then be aligned into a single cohesive coordinate system. The overall point cloud is then distilled into mesh geometry that can be post-processed into whatever 3D modelling software you want.
Besides increasing accuracy and saving time, these plan view images of the resultant point cloud are hauntingly beautiful.
