Every now and again a cutoff will have some figure that leads me to hold on to it, frustratingly taking up space in my shop until the right design pops into my head. I had a wildly figured piece of 8/4 cherry that I just knew would reveal an interesting panel when cut open and book matched.

The result was absolutely beautiful and definitely interesting.

This was a practice project, not a commission, so I decided to run with it. I got to play with a few new techniques, mitred dovetail edges, inlay face frame, brushing mixed shellac.

The result is a unique, bold, beautiful specialty cabinet that I decided to give away to some friends that would embrace the design and show it proudly. It turns out that this is their first piece of handmade furniture so I know it'll be well loved.

The home stretch of a job is a mixture of relief and anxiety. To see all the planning, math, and ex*****on come together is unbelievably reassuring, yet one "perfectly" made mistake can undo hours or days of work. The best move is to maintain confidence and keep moving forward at a consistent and calculated pace.

Man oh man though, this is a pretty slick one. Can't wait to show you all.

After a rather long stint of repair jobs, I recently had a reprieve by installing this beautiful live edge countertop. The contractor knocked it out of the park with the color combos in the kitchen, and I was thrilled to be a part of the remodel.

This was the home stretch for the homeowner of an almost complete home reno. Cheers to them for finishing with such a beautiful room, hopefully there will be a lovely meal and a stiff drink made here to celebrate the conclusion of their renovation process 🥂

Today is a big day.

It's been over five years of building my business. Long days and late nights. Investing thousands and thousands of dollars into a new shop space and the equipment to fill it.

All so that I can make my own coat rack instead of buying one on Amazon.

It's been a long, grueling journey but that journey is complete.

Today is a big day.

It's always nice to see a piece that I've made proudly displayed in its new home.

This table fits perfectly in its new kitchen, adding a lovely wooden farmhouse accent to a beautifully modern remodel that was expertly done by my friends at .

Have you ever been looking for furniture, seen a piece, and thought "that's almost perfect! I just wish that..."?

Larger suppliers might give you two or three color options, maybe even a couple size options as well. But change the proportions of the legs? Forget about it. Change the edge profile and taper in the feet a bit? Not an option.

As a small shop custom woodworker, I'm able to offer customization that isn't available from larger companies.

This coffee table is an example of a customer sharing how what they've found didn't quite hit the mark. We talked about what parts of the inspiration picture they liked and tweaked certain design elements to be the exact piece they were looking for.

When you're curious about working together on a piece that's perfect for your home, I'm ready to chat.

This cherry coffee was made for the same home as the recent writing desk. Same customer's material, same color to match, same story and attention to detail.

I'm also realizing I need to attack photography lighting the same way I went at learning dovetails 🙄. One day at a time Landon, one day at a time.

A little patience can go a long way.

About two years ago, a customer told me she had a cherished maple tree coming down and asked if there was any way some of it could be salvaged. I cut some pieces off of it, let them dry, and today she'll be picking these bowls and rolling pin up. One for her, the rest for gifts.

A writing desk in cherry, custom made to fit the customer's room just right. I also made this from material that came from their own property, adding another layer of connection to the piece.

Whenever I make a new piece I fondly think about how long until it has some pencil marks, light dents from cups, maybe a scratch from a button on a shirt that they were unaware of. A piece like this will hold up for decades, collecting little wear and tear mementos along the way. Let's just hope there's no gum though, that's just nasty.

Happy to add see another piece leaving the shop, into the next one.

I recently donated this walnut blanket chest to support the Newbridges' annual fundraiser.

During the evening, Newbridges' ED spoke of the difference in being "responsible" vs "response-able" in regards to how we respond to injustices and disparities that we see around us. A subtle difference, but I think an important one.

If you're looking for ways to be more response-able for our spectacular immigrant and refugee community, consider donating to or volunteering with Newbridges IRC. They're a fantastic group of people doing tireless work for some lovely people that sometimes need a helping hand.

Every little bit helps
