A naturalistic approach to the landscape enabled new construction at this Hudson Valley residence to integrate with the region’s iconic pastoral character.
Gardens by the house and terraced vegetable garden lead to meadow and shrubland habitats created on former agricultural fields. Central to the meadow is a pond featuring both deep- and shallow-water planting benches that, in addition to offering distinct habitat, suggest these designed features have always been part of this landscape. Invasive species management and restoration plantings also occurred along the woodland edges.
