Kitchen essentials you’ve never considered: a chalkboard, perfectly-sized jar storage, and a coffee corner made complete by a teeny-tiny shell shelf.

Holding on to the green as long as we can.

A bank of douglas fir windows by Loewen lends a treehouse aesthetic to this second-story sunroom and feels simultaneously private and expansive. We crafted the trim to match the window frames, shaping a perfectly understated border that allows the view to shine.

Next up in our series of natural finishes: zinc. We fabricated and installed these countertops ourselves in a kitchen renovation that’s near and dear to our hearts. Over time, this surface will age and patina to a beautiful molted hue (bonus: it’s naturally antimicrobial, too)!

Thanks to EH’s Justin George for playing a big role in this install.

Still thinking about the unbelievable slate roof of The Garden House (built in 1913) from the Shadyside House Tour.

This photo barely does it justice (and doesn’t capture the curved tiles, which were manufactured with specific radii to fit the undulating surface of the roof), but you can read all about it online. Architect Edward Joseph Weber designed this element of the home as a nod to the traditional English roofing style of thatched straw.

You’d never guess such a stunning corner was previously a source of concern.

This multi-step whole home renovation required careful thinking and creative solutions to address structural deficiencies from previous renovations, including existing rot in the southwest corner of the house. The space is now structurally sound with a fully integrated 20-foot corner window from Kolbe Windows and Doors –a beautiful and practical way to invite the outside world in.

A Newport Brass bathroom faucet that has been weathered for about a year. These natural finishes are changed by the history of use, allowing a space to become an archive of life in the home.

We love the sense of calm and quiet embodied in this loft space. Also, we love the rustic minimalism of an exposed wood beam.

We take all kinds of measures to save, work around, and restore original three-coat plaster on wood lathe, but in most restoration jobs we need to supplement it in some way. Two-coat veneer plaster is a beautiful finish that seamlessly integrates with historic three-coat.

As part of our restoration efforts of this Victorian, we’ve been lucky to work with plasterer Chris McClelland, a true master of this timeless art.
