Proper Protocol for a Brushed Oil Satin Application
A little Fine Paints of Europe and some technique goes a long way!

This door was in pretty ugly shape
It’s still not perfect

This is only a look into final phase of this install
Where all the hard work pays off 💪🏼

This was my first time using an oval sash ICR brush
Not a huge fan of its corner pe*******on
But the lay of was mint 👌🏼

TRANSFORMATION!

3 coats Marine Yacht Satin

Had to strip face plate of lockset due to failed lacquer
All the way back to brass
Good thing I had Patina solution at the shop!

The BEST part of a door refinish

That first grain pop!
Marine Yacht to kick this process off

This is 1 of 3 top coats going down

That mahogany reveal 😍

I reduce by 30% to maximize pe*******on of first coat
It will dry uneven based on different grain absorption

But really brings this door to life

Industry legend was in da burgh today for an all day master class
Was good to finally meet him and get some good info

I jet directly from the seminar
In my Banana Republic pants
And still delivered the goods today 💪🏼

dropped a new product and I had to see for myself if it’s actually worth the noise

Emerald Symmetry

A lot of new paint releases get hyped up fast, but hype doesn’t mean much once it hits a real wall and real application
In this video I break down my honest opinion on Symmetry from a painter’s perspective
Not sales talk
Not brochure language
Just what stands out
What doesn’t
And whether I think it has real value in the field

Ran through some testing of right before released it

Here’s how I think it stacks up
And my initial thoughts on the product

Me and my buddy Jeff West chopping it up with the Euroline

For clean taped edges that don’t need to be eyeballed! 👀

I have been slowly
SLOWLY collecting items from the early to late 1800s and sprinkling them as design elements throughout my house.

200 year old barn beam in our kitchen reno
1830s farm estate doors, restored, for the bedrooms
Giant French doors for the patio (not 1800s but present the same statement wise)

This one may be my favorite to date
Mid to late 1800s coal burning fireplace surround with restored patina
Light kiss of brass transfer and re waxed with stove polish

It’s hard making a former coal fireplace look elegant
The previous stone install was pretty hideous and the gas insert face was underwhelming

I redid the stone in lime paint with black accent wash and replaced the insert face with this

Upping it to a statement as opposed to an afterthought

This install is the e on this kitchen 🥰

I was originally uncertain about stainless and brass combo
But this hits!

The strapping for this range hood came with a factory metallic coating that would have cheapened this look

GC asked if we could do something better

I sent out a sample of the cabinet hardware to my buddy liv .luxury.finishes who is a color master and had her produce a formula of metal that would get us on target

This thing has some magic now

Mid-Century Modern
What used to be called dated has entered its renaissance

Ten years ago, people were giving MCM furniture away
Now the same pieces command thousands

This 1954 gem was one of three homes born from a Carnegie Institute of Technology collaboration — the beginnings of what became Burt Hill Architects, later building commercial landmarks around the world

Fast-forward to today…
We were called in to reverse a failed remodel
Technically 90 percent “done”

But everything needed redone
Roof → replaced
Electrical → full re-wire
Paint → literally peeled off trim

Weeks of backtracking just to reach baseline

That’s where collaboration matters most:
Homeowner vision.
Architect goals
Designer detail
GC coordination

When trust is the foundation
Things flow

Our team brought it all together — subtle sheens, balanced tones, and statement piece installs:
✨ A mirror-finish powder room in deep burgundy
✨ A VeroMetal brass entry door you won’t find anywhere else in the metro

Once the art and furniture landed, everything meshed perfectly
The soul of 1954 — reborn for 2025.
