We were honored to have our VP of Operations, Tim Mullane, invited to speak to the Alabama, Mississippi, NW Florida Area Emergency Coalition today about the decontamination process of the SS United States! He explained the contaminants that are/were on board and how they are being remediated and why the SS United States was such a good candidate to become an artificial reef.

The forward engine room elevator has been safely removed!

We found one of the watchmen’s key stations still on board! This was one way to ensure the watchmen were making their rounds. The watchman carried a clock and they would insert the unique key attached to the station and turn it, this would imprint the station’s number and time onto a paper disk inside the clock the watchman carried. The clock would then be opened by supervisors with a different key to examine the paper record at the end of a patrol period to ensure all designated patrol routes had been performed.

The bar is being saved! This is a replica of the real bar that was on the ship. The replica was built as a prop used during filming of a movie. It will not be scrapped

The winches have been removed from the #2 cargo hold! These winches opened and closed the cargo doors to accommodate any and all cargo loaded and offloaded from the ship! Our project coordinator and operations officer, Grady and Tim, made sure everything was removed safely!
