The last two days gave me the chance to work on a project that felt like stepping back into my own beginnings. A client asked me to finish out the ceiling of their porch, and what started as exposed roofing nails is now a clean, warm pine shiplap ceiling that brings a classic, old‑fashioned charm to the whole space. What made this job special wasn’t just the transformation, it was the tools and the material. I built this ceiling using the same kind of setup my grandfather relied on: a table saw, a chop saw, and a steady hand. No fancy equipment, just the basics and the craft.
Pine shiplap was one of the first materials I ever worked with as a kid at my grandparents’ home in Gorham, Maine. The moment I opened the bundle, that familiar scent of fresh pine hit me, and it felt like being right back in that garage learning how to make my first cuts. It’s funny how certain materials carry memories with them. Proud of this one, not just for how it looks, but for the reminder of where the craft started for me.
