Beat the summer heat and keep your lawn looking pristine with these few tips!

1. Water your lawn between 6am—10am. You may believe your helping your grass by watering at night. Why not maximize absorption and avoid the sun’s heat, BUT...when you water at night, the lack of evaporation creates the perfect climate for bacterial and fungal diseases to spread and reproduce.

2. Your lawn needs 1” water a week. It’s recommended you water twice a week instead of everyday. The infrequent and longer session of watering allows for the roots to grow deeper and absorb more water in the future, creating resilient and durable grass!

3. Just like the temperature here in Alabama, lawn height goes up in the summer. The height you mow your grass is beneficial to keeping your lawn healthy. Common grasses in our area are Bermuda, Centipede, and Zoysia. These warm season grasses should round out at about 2 to 2.5 inches. The length being longer during the summer keeps the lawn’s roots protected from the heat and minimizes chances for crab grass to sprout!
