Cline The Experts at Designing the Experience of Living Well.

09/03/2026

Some places just feel good to be in. We think workplaces should, too.

Walk through Cline on any given day and you’ll find ideas being sketched, questioned, shared, and reshaped. Someone leaning over a desk to offer a thought. Someone else pulling people into a conversation because the idea might get better with more voices in it.

You’ll hear experience being passed along, fresh perspectives changing the direction of a discussion, plenty of laughter, and probably a celebration or two.

It’s a mix we love: seasoned perspective & new thinking. Individual talent & collective momentum. Big ideas & people willing to jump in and help make them real.

Because culture, like design, doesn’t happen by accident.

It’s shaped over time by the people you invite in, the ideas you make room for and the way you show up for one another.

And when it works, you can feel it.

At Southerly LoSo, every design decision was rooted in a sense of place. Positioned between the energy of LoSo and the neighborhood character of Madison Park, the community blends industrial-inspired materials, laid-back hospitality, and thoughtfully curated local artwork to create an experience that feels distinctly Charlotte.

Meet our Greek Housing team. Together, they have worked on numerous Greek Housing projects across the East Coast, collaborating to create communities where brothers and sisters can call home throughout their college years and beyond.

As students return to campus, the places they live become an important part of how they connect, grow, and find community. Thoughtfully designed Greek Housing must do much more than provide bedrooms. It must support belonging, leadership, tradition, daily life, and more.

Listen to what our team has to say about what Greek Housing means to them.

“Honest Mary’s is known for reflecting the unique character of each community it serves. At its new location, the restaurant embraces the iconic industrial history of the Seaholm District while integrating modern design elements. The result is a vibrant, sustainable neighborhood eatery that honors the past and incorporates Austin Energy Green Building practices and features.” Jed Duhon | Cline Austin Office Principal & Team Leader

Back-to-school season is a reminder that housing is tied to the rhythms of daily life.

Where people live shapes the morning commute, the school drop-off, the walk to transit, access to childcare, proximity to work, and the everyday places families rely on including parks, grocery stores, healthcare, coffee shops, and community gathering spaces.

That is why housing cannot be viewed only as supply, demand, or unit count. Housing shapes how people move through their day. It influences household stability, access to opportunity, and the way communities grow.

In Housing Is Economic Infrastructure, Cline's Design Director, Dan Rider, explores how thoughtful housing design supports the people, systems, and relationships that make growth sustainable.

Because growth is not just something communities measure. It is something people experience.

At Waltonwood Lead Mine, the most important design moves aren’t always the ones you immediately see.

From intuitive circulation and short walking distances to discreet memory care security, clear staff sightlines, access to outdoor space, and amenities woven into everyday life, the community was designed to support residents with dignity, comfort, and choice.

Set on five wooded acres in North Raleigh, Waltonwood balances connection and retreat, creating a residential experience that feels welcoming, personal, and thoughtfully considered at every scale.

Cline provided architecture, interior design, and furniture procurement for the community.

Because designing for aging well is really about designing for living well. https://www.clinedesignassoc.com/project/waltonwood-lead-mine/

Big news for Downtown Durham.

Congratulations to our client and partner, Laurel Street Residential, on being selected to bring affordable housing to the former Durham Police Headquarters site. We’re excited to be part of the team helping imagine what’s next for this prominent downtown property and even more excited to see 80 new affordable homes move closer to reality.

A great next chapter for an important Durham site.

Rosewood brings a fresh expression of mid-century luxury to the heart of Raleigh.

Designed as a connection between the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood and downtown Raleigh, the mixed-use development embraces warm materials, rounded forms, and distinctive mid-century details throughout.

The Rosewood brand was developed alongside our architecture and interiors teams, allowing the identity to grow directly from the design of the place itself. The flowing script logo echoes the project’s signature curves and softened edges, while the rich, warm color palette draws inspiration from the materials and character found throughout the interiors.

By approaching the architecture, interiors, and branding together, every element of Rosewood tells the same story, creating a cohesive identity that feels sophisticated, welcoming, and rooted in its surroundings.

Langtree Live was designed as more than a spot for live music. Set within the heart of Langtree at Lake Norman in Charlotte, North Carolina, the covered outdoor venue and open lawn give the community a place to gather, dance, grab dinner, and stay awhile.

The stage sits at the intersection of Langtree’s retail “Main Street,” with restaurants and storefronts just steps away. On concert nights, the lawn fills with chairs and blankets, kids gather near the front, vendors activate the edges, and the adjacent parking area can become room for an even bigger crowd.

It is relaxed, flexible, and woven into the everyday life of the neighborhood. Just the way a community gathering place should be.
