Good job, now get the hell out of my house.....

No we'll be back after the owner paints, for sure to do the base and trim, hang doors and cabinets, finish siding, etc.
Clean up and on to the next.

The upside to working on old houses is it keeps you on your toes and teaches you on the fly. You get creative and inventive and become a zen master if you're doing it right

Bit of a photo dump. Finally finished hanging the upstairs in an 80 year old house. 1700 sqft upstairs and mirrored downstairs.
Because of it being so old, there's no such thing as a level surface or a square wall. So that entails a lot of shaving the corners on your drywall to get a decent fit, and/or a lot of pre-filling the gaps you just can't help but have. Also a little unorthodox but I taped off as I went.
There was some framing and some tear-out along the way. Had to remove a closet in the bathroom to open up the space. Also false-walled a bathroom vent that wasn't built into the wall system. Replace a stud here, plane a stud there, and it all comes together in the end.
(And) Hanging the stairwell was actually a whole lot easier for one guy than I thought it was gonna be.

Couple more days finishing up some framing and hanging, and will be able to start putting mud on the walls.

Progress check.
Taking my sweet time down in the basement. Insulated and v***r sealed. Installed windows, finished some framing. Installed a radon pipe, framed up the duct work. Got tape and cornerbead on all the 'rock that's been hung.

Easy peasy.

Figured a follow-up to my last post was in order.

Shortly after tools came up missing on the job and with the help of some pretty awesome people in my corner, we were not only able to replace all tools but managed to also purchase a new work truck.

A big thanks for my angels.

Setbacks are set-ups for comebacks.

I got robbed last night.
Someone broke in through the front door of the job site, kicked down the OSB covering the basement door, took just about everything I had along the way.

I've only done some quick figuring but it's around $5,000-$6,000 worth of tools. I spent five years building my kit, only to have someone take it upon themselves to deprive me of my means to provide for myself, over what? A drug addiction? ........

Of course a police report's been filed and all the pawn shops have a list, but honestly there's not much you can do but eat the loss and start again.

In one sense it's on me because I should have listened to my better judgment, but all the same ......

Had to rip up the old vinyl siding and there was a bit of prep work underneath. But she's wrapped and ready for the new stuff.

The roof also had some damage that needed to be addressed before the next storm.

The inside upstairs is insulated and v***r sealed, ready for drywall.

A one-trick pony, we is not.

Killer. Glad for the inside work through the winter. Got a full finish. 3500 square of drywall; insulation and all the things. Try to get to the siding before I can't feel my fingers.

A quick basement window cut into an 8" concrete wall. About 1000 lbs removed.
Had to install a lintel on the inside opening as a means to support the weight of the wall above ; 1/4" 3"x3" angle iron.
Reframed, insulated, threw up some sheet rock. Tape and mud it tomorrow and another one in the books.

That's pretty much a wrap. Slap some fascia over the rim joists and call it good enough.

Coming up on three months from start to finish; one man crew with a lot on his plate but we kept after it.

Looks pretty damned alright.
