🍄Ever see a weeping cherry that looks like it’s wearing a bowl cut?
We call that the "mushroom look," and it’s what happens when you take hedge trimmers straight across the bottom.
If you want your tree to actually look like a focal point, you want to aim for a natural waterfall.
Here’s how we handle it for our clients:
1. Layer the "Flow"Instead of a flat skirt hem, we stagger the cuts. By leaving some branches slightly longer than others, you get that cascading water effect. It’s way more pleasing to the eye than a blunt, uniform line.
2. Ditch the Mushroom shape cutting everything at the exact same height makes the tree look heavy and stunted. We aim for a natural, wispy finish that lets the branches dance a bit in the breeze.
3. Open Up the "Lace" most people forget the inside. We thin out the crowded branches tucked under the canopy to expose the tree's structure. This creates a "lace-like" look where light can actually filter through the layers instead of just hitting a wall of green.Pruning these is more of an art than a chore.
If your cherry tree is looking a little too much like a mushroom and needs its "waterfall" back, give us a shout!
MOST IMPORTANTLY. IT WILL GROW BACK. Let the tree breath and keep excess moisture away, it can cause a lot of harm to your trees health.
