We got a call recently from Mike about a tree situation at his family's cabin up in Island Park.

The property has been in their family since the 1930s.

Beautiful place.

They had just finished remodeling the cabin when they noticed a 60 foot tree leaning right over the side of it.

Not exactly what you want to see after you just got done fixing the place up.

Mike was worried we might drop something on the cabin during the removal.

Don't worry...We didn't.

We also got out there quickly, gave them a price they could afford, and had the whole thing taken care of same day.

But here's my favorite part of this job.

Mike's mom came with him.

Her eyes aren't great so she held my arm while we walked around the property together.

She watched the whole thing from start to finish.

When it was all done she turned to her son, pointed at Mary, and said:

"She did that."

I don't know if I've ever felt more proud in my life.

That moment right there is why we do this.

If you've got a tree situation in Idaho Falls or the surrounding area, we'd love to earn your trust.

P.S. Mike's mom was an absolute sweetheart. The kind of person that makes you feel good about your work before you've even started. We definitely won't forget her.

Yesterday Mary and I stopped by the Idaho Falls Fire Department and dropped off some pizza for the crew.

No agenda.

No coupon stapled to the box.

Just a thank you.

These guys and gals show up to the worst moments of people's lives.

House fires. Car accidents. Medical emergencies.

They don't get to pick their days.

They just show up.

Every single time.

We've been building our lives here in Idaho Falls for a while now and this community has been good to us.

It felt like the right thing to do.

If you know someone at the Idaho Falls Fire Department tell them we said thank you.

They deserve to hear it more than they do.

Hey Idaho Falls!

My name is Jake and this is my fiancée Mary. Together we run Jake's Tree Service. You've probably seen our truck around town, but I wanted to take a second and introduce ourselves, the actual people behind the business.

A few things about us that have nothing to do with trees.

Mary and I have been together for three years and we're engaged.
We genuinely love doing life together which is probably why working together made so much sense. Not everyone can say their best friend is also their business partner.

We can.

When we're not working you'll find us hunting, fishing, or gold prospecting. Yes, gold prospecting. Idaho has more going on underground than most people realize and we love every minute of exploring it.

Here's something people find pretty funny about us. We both loved tree work from a young age. My dad was a logger. Mary grew up around it too. We genuinely feel like we were born with chainsaws in our hands. Most people pick a career. We kind of just ended up exactly where we were supposed to be.

I was actually homeschooled growing up and was really into Tae Kwon Do. Won a national tournament back in 1990. So if you were ever thinking about not paying your invoice... just something to keep in mind. 😂

Here's what I love about this work.

Every job is a new puzzle to solve. No two trees are exactly the same. No two yards are the same. And I genuinely love the challenge of figuring out the safest and most efficient way to get the job done.

We love being outside & oddly love the heights as well.
And I'll be honest, I love the boom when a tree comes down. There's something deeply satisfying about that sound that never gets old no matter how many times you've heard it.

We're a local family business. Not a franchise. Not a call center in another state. When you call us you get us.

If you've ever needed tree work done or know someone who has — we'd love to earn your trust.

Okay, I'll be honest. It really annoys me when you Google "how much does tree removal cost" and every single result either gives you a useless range like "$150 to $5,000" or tries to get you to fill out a form so some random company can call you 47 times.
So here's what it actually costs. From someone who does this every day here in Idaho Falls.
Small trees up to 25 feet - $500 to $1,000.
Think small ornamental trees, young cottonwoods, stuff that's more of an inconvenience than a real project.
Medium trees 25 to 50 feet - $1,000 to $3,000.
This is where most residential jobs fall. Cottonwoods, poplars, pines. The kind of trees that are everywhere here in Idaho Falls but can become a real problem when they're dead, diseased, or growing too close to your home.
Large trees 50 to 75 feet - $3,000 and up.
These jobs take a crew, the right equipment, and sometimes a full day.
Very large or hazardous trees over 75 feet - $3,750 and up.
Now here's why those ranges are so wide.
A few things affect the price that most people don't think about.
How close the tree is to your house, fence, or power lines.
Whether the tree is dead, diseased, or leaning, that makes the job more technical and more dangerous.
Obstacles around the tree like structures, other trees, or tight spaces.
And whether you want the debris hauled away or if you want to keep the logs for firewood.
Two trees that look exactly the same from the street can be completely different jobs once we actually get eyes on them.
One more thing worth knowing. If you've got multiple trees that need work we do offer a multi-tree discount. So if you've been putting off dealing with a few of them it's worth getting them all looked at at the same time.
I hope this actually helps.
If you have a tree you're thinking about and want a straight answer on price, just send us a message.
No pressure. No games. No 47 follow up calls.
And yes we do free estimates.
If that tree is totally fine we'll tell you that too.
