Before we can build the house, we have to build the place we're putting it on.

First comes clearing the land and getting the site ready. Trees, brush, old structures, rocks, dirt — whatever is in the way has to go. Then we get the ground graded and make sure water is going to go where we want it to go instead of where it wants to go.

There can be a lot of work happening here that you won't see once the house is finished.

It's not the most exciting part of building a house, but it matters. You want to start with a good, solid site before you start putting a house on top of it.

Next up: the foundation.

Ever wondered what actually goes into building a house from the ground up?

Over the next several days, we’re going to walk through the process from the very beginning — clearing the land and preparing the site — all the way through the final finishes.

There’s a whole lot that happens before you ever get to pick out paint colors, flooring and light fixtures. Every step builds on the one before it, and if you get something wrong early on, it can create problems much later.

So let’s build a house.

Once the active infestation was taken care of, it was time to deal with what the termites left behind.

This repair required patience and a careful approach. We replaced the damaged bottom plate, reframed the door, and were able to save the existing top plate rather than replacing what didn’t need to be replaced.

We will reinstall the insulation, drywall, and finish with texture and paint.

Termite damage isn't always as simple as replacing a piece of wood. Sometimes you have to slow down, figure out what can be saved, replace what can't, and rebuild it properly.

The termites moved out. Now we're putting the house back together.

Because termites don’t need to be big to make a big mess.

Termites are like the ultimate ninjas - they can sneak up on you and wreak havoc without you even noticing! 🕵️‍♂️

A wall can look perfect from the outside, but behind the scenes, it's like a termite rave party 🎉.

They're munching away on wood from the inside out, leaving damage that's only revealed when you least expect it.

So, keep an eye out for those sneaky signs - soft spots, hollow sounds, damaged trim, and discarded wings, small trails of dirt.
