If you have a 90% furnace and if we get the accumulation that they say we are going to have you will need to make sure your flue pipe exhaust does not get covered with snow and frozen, also make sure you’re 90% drain line is insulated properly and cleared around it so it does not freeze. If any of these freeze up, your heat will not operate. 

When it comes to your heat pump systems, you will more than likely have to occasionally go outside and clear ice , and snow off the top of your heat pump to keep the fan blade from freezing up sticking and burning up the motor. Try to keep at least 15 inches around your heat pump condenser clear to keep it operational with the adequate amount of air growing across the coil.

With the cold temps heat pumps will struggle to produce heat. If your heat pump is frozen turn your heat off and turn your auxiliary heat on so the system can thaw and you can get some heat circulating. This electrical panel will need to be replaced, because of the company that had been performing the maintenance on the system never checked the heat pumps two 240 volt circuits. If this system’s power had been checked and the breakers lugs checked and tightened it would’ve never burned up the panel. The homeowner now has to spend thousands of dollars due to the maintenance not being performed correctly.

When systems start getting age on them it is a great idea to have safety checks performed. Less than 12 months ago this heat exchanger was solid. It made it through that winter and went through the air conditioning season and before the heat was fired up this year this heat exchanger as you can see in the picture has developed a large crack.. This is not healthy for anyone. be safe watch out for your health and your wallet!!
