6.13.2026 the ‘OG’ garden in full force!

In the beginning, the main objectives were simple: Fill the space, crowd out weeds, work with shade.

With those in mind, we set out to give a naturalistic, multi season show of various textures, colors and bloom times within a small space.

Looking at this first season since the original planting, I think we met our objectives. But we are far from finished. This garden will continue to evolve. It’s only done when the imagination stops (or the client says “You’re done! Get outta here!”), and that’s the beauty of it

Added some more mature columbine plants in, added more columbine to fill in some of the space and add a light, airy texture with its foliage. The blooms aren’t half bad either!

Can’t wait to get back and see it soon!

🚨New addition to the OG garden!

Red Columbine (Aquilegia Canadensis) was in a couple of the original design plans, overlooked, and now we’re happy to say has found its way in!

With nodding red and yellow flowers, it will add a little fire as it elegantly weaves through the bed, as well as a fun airy texture with its foliage. Blooms late spring/early summer

And the garden keeps on growing!

You’d be surprised of the difference that just a little pruning would make, not only aesthetically, but for the overall health of the tree.

From dead branches, crossing branches that rub against each other, to sucker growths, a little spring pruning can help prevent disease and pests from harming your favorite trees.

This beautiful Crape Myrtle had a lot of crossers, as well as a honeysuckle bush invading its space. 15 minutes of pruning and now it can breathe easy and bloom wonderfully come late spring/early summer!

Looks like everything is continuing to grow in nicely!

Made a couple new additions. The OG bed has two new Hellebore plants as does the Japanese Maple bed to fill in some spaces. Also put in an unknown Heuchera (Coral Bells) species accidentally started from seed hidden in our potting soil 😬

Below the Japanese Maple also planted two more Packera aurea (Golden Ragwort) which will spread through and fill in around the Hosta that were planted by our family member.

Remember, the garden is never truly a finished product. There’s always things to add or subtract, changes that you might want to make. Every day is an opportunity to grow and evolve in your creative process!
