It's a bit of a disappointment, isn't it? You invest in 'maintenance-free' artificial turf only to find w**ds growing in it. While artificial turf is designed to discourage growth, it isn't always safe from mother nature.
Most w**ds in artificial turf don't actually come from the dirt underneath the turf. Instead, they grow ON TOP of it.
1. Organic debris settles into the infill creating a thin layer of 'soil'.
2. Wind, birds, foot steps drop seeds into that organic buildup.
3. The seeds germinate in the infill and send roots sideways through the thatch.
Don't worry... dealing with this is usually much easier that a real lawn:
- For occasional w**ds, simply pull them out by hand. Since the roots can't pe*****te deep into the compacted sub-base, they usually slide right out.
- Standard w**d killer is safe for your turf (ensure it's safe for pets if applicable).
