We have replaced the deteriorating garden wall with Versa-Lok Standard Timberwood Blend units and reconfigured the planting beds by adding Arborvitae to enhance patio privacy, while also installing integrated steps leading to the yard and incorporating new Iowa large rock. Here are some before and after pictures of this property. Years of built-up mulch, rock, bushes, and trees had caused the grade to change, and clogged pipes were leading to standing water and water at the front door, making access difficult. We came in, regraded, hauled away and removed old bushes and trees, and installed new PVC pipes for the downspouts, directing water away from the building. We refreshed the landscape with new large Iowa Raindbow rock and Boxwoods. The owners wanted something simple, with plans to add colorful perennials later.

We cleaned up, removed weeds, and put in some decorative rock. We also took out an old, broken flagstone walkway and laid new sod. We fixed up the existing walkway with mortar where it was needed, and we added an extra paved area for the grill.

This showcases the before and after of a backyard transformation. The property previously experienced water runoff directly towards the house due to its hillside location. We addressed this by excavating multiple layers of rock and soil to ensure proper drainage below the weep holes of the brick foundation. This involved re-establishing the grade to direct water away from the foundation and creating a swale around the house, channeling water to the side and then to the front street. Additionally, an Versa-Lok retaining wall was installed, complemented by new plantings, mulch, sod, and stepping stones to provide access to the side yard walk.
