Via Jake Fitzsimmons - I use this cut everyday. Known as a drop cut. This cut can be performed to make the branch drop straight down without the tip of the branch coming under. Although this cut must be performed correctly it is a good one to know because it does come useful in the tree climbing world.

Properly pruned plants look better and live longer. Avoid ruining your shrubs by over-pruning.
