Earthlight Dwellings

Earthlight Dwellings Earthlight Dwellings is an architectural firm dedicated to creating sustainable buildings.

Earthlight Dwellings (TM) is creating a new kind of home design, offering modern design, lower construction cost, and less time for delivery for a truly sustainable product. Most home builders impose "green" features on a home as an afterthought. An Earthlight dwelling is green from the ground up: form and function work together in clever ways to lessen energy load and costs over the lifetime of t

he home; building materials are either recycled or recyclable with low impact on both the atmosphere and indoor air quality; and the construction process, which utilizes prefabricated components, eliminates material waste. Advanced software, combined with a proprietary data base of components allows a design to go from sketch to plan check in days, not months. And commercial techniques consisting of prefabricated wall, roof and floor panels, are adapted to houses, resulting in higher quality, faster construction, and lower cost. Our office is completely automated, using the most state-of-the-art CADD software, Revit 2011. We also have the latest version of Autocad, enabling us to work with consultants who utilize this software.

For her high school seminar this afternoon, Laurie Friedman will be comparing the writings and home designs of Catherine Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe (author of Uncle Tom's Cabin) in their 1869 book "The American Woman's Home" with the work of contemporary architects Michelle Kaufman and Jennifer Seigal. Interesting similarities in their visions and concerns.

If you're up in the Northern California area, be sure to check out the Sunset Idea House Prefab in Healdsburg. The colorful, richly textured interior was designed by Marin architect Sharon Portnoy.

Attended the Marin County Annual High School Design Competition this evening and was impressed with the creative solutions to the complex program (a hillside home for a disabled client) by Redwood High School architecture students. Also impressive was their model making skills and command of Revit. Great work!
